He didn't have to since his words were designed to be performed.

For Fred. From my latest game - Poles vs Bavarians. (I know, but I did because I could.) Terrain and initial placement are randomly determined.

Overview of the Poles. Infantry on the left, the 14th Cuirassiers and some infantry in the centre and a lancer brigade on the right - on the wrong side of the river.

Infantry in the centre, with the 14th Cuirassiers and a lancer regiment in support.

Other side of the windmill. 14th Cuirassiers in the background and a couple of artillery batteries. The general, Kaminiecki and his staff take position in front of the windmill.

Polish right, two lancer regiments trying to get over the river

Bavarians - all the cavalry (4 regiments) on the right

The Bavarian centre is held by a brigade of light infantry. Their commander Wrede and his staff move off the road to let the artillery pass.

Left wing. Regular infantry and a couple of battalions of landwehr.

I mentioned the 14th Cuirassiers because they were the stars of the show. They (and the 3rd Lancers) cut across their infantry and straight into the Bavarian cavalry, destroying the two brigades in short order.

The Bavarian Light infantry holding the centre went into square and their inertia seemed to infect the next in line National infantry who refused to advance from their hedged field, and the regular infantry were held in place by the other Polish cavalry brigade (2nd and 4th Lancers) who had finally made their way over the river on the Polish right.

Wrede, in command of the Bavarians, seeing no way forward conducted a controlled withdrawal, leaving the field to Kaminiecki and the Poles.

Can't cope at the moment - need to take stock.

Yesterday I based a unit of Imperial Roman auxiliaries, painted a battalion of Danish Napoleonic infantry, and prepped some British Cold War vehicles.

I'm waiting for the promised Israeli half tracks before I can finish that project, I bought some Hoplites because (?), and found some Roman Republicans that need a coat of paint.

So what did I do this morning? Worked out how to get a Napoleonic Swedish army.  =)

By my reckoning, I have 13 projects on the go at the moment.  :o

So, being resolute I am going to:
  • Paint the horse, and finish basing Uncle Richard <<Project Finished>>
  • Paint the 2nd (technically the 4th) battalion of the Danish Holstein regiment (75 figures), and the Brigadier
  • Paint the Cold War British vehicles - 26
  • Rig the HMS Charlotte <<Project Finished>>
  • Finish painting the Imperial Romans - just a few to do <<Project Finished>>
  • Paint the 2 battalions of the Danish Funen Regiments - 150 or so figures
  • Paint the British Cold War infantry - 120 figures <<Project Finished>>
  • Paint the 2 battalions of the Danish Schleswig Regiments* - 150 or so figures, and the Brigadier
  • Paint the Cold War Harriers *Project Finished*, A10 Warthogs and Su25s*
  • Paint the Danish General, staff, ADCs, markers and cassions - 50 figures(?)<<Project Finished>>
  • Paint the M60s and M113 for the US Cold War forces*  10 vehicles<<Project Finished (see below)>>
  • Paint those two Napoleonic Polish battalions I "found" - 144 figures
  • Finish painting the Republican Romans - 2 allied Legions - about 200 figures <<Project Finished>>
  • Paint those other two Polish battalions - 144 figures <<Project Finished (again)>>
  • Paint those Hoplites <<Project Finished>>

Meanwhile, in terms of purchasing I need to heavily invest in Soviet T34's, T62s, BTRs and BMPs to finish off the Egyptians and Cold War Soviet (about 40 vehicles),a nd the M3s when they arrive for the Israelis.   Also, realistically, I'm not going to resist those new buildings for long. Oh, and 'cos I've got some British Cold War artillery, I'll have to get some Soviet ... and that means I have to get American guns too.  :(

Then, and only then, may I start a new project.** This will be one of (in current order of interest)
  • Swedish Napoleonics (I can proxy)
  • Ottoman Napoleonics
  • Spanish Napoleonics
  • Romano- British
  • WWI Russian, Austrians, Germans (Eastern front anyway)
  • Minor Napoleonics (e.g. Italy, Saxony, Westphalia, Naples***)
  • French Napoleonics
  • Portuguese Napoleonics
  • Viet Nam or French Indo China
  • Something else

Yes, I could just go period specific and for example, blitz the Danes, but that means painting nearly 400 red coats and blue trousers in one fell swoop. I prefer a bit of variety in my painting, and unfortunately painted all the Danish cavalry and artillery in between Romans.

This, Gentlemen, is a plan. The plan is of such a quality that requires an appropriate logo:

*Assuming they arrive from Pendraken by the time I get here in the list
**This does not include the possibility that Pendraken may release something that is more interesting - e.g. Ancient Indians, Amazons, SciFi.
***Too many damned white uniforms!

Please note: *Project Finished* just means "balanced force that can be gamed with" and implies no cessation of increasing, improving or generally updating the force in question.

Ah! Good to know I'm not the only one.

I don't like having so much on the go. I prefer only one or two projects running concurrently at the painting phase, with one other in the purchasing phase.

When I signed the Pledge that the Dark Lord was the Way, and that 10mm was the One True Scale, I ditched all other scales (barring 1:600 aircraft and 1:3000 ships) which does allow me a consistency with scenery. My one regret is that it does limit one somewhat in the realm of skirmish games.

Recently Pendraken have tempted me to stray by releasing so many new loveliness. I need to next few releases to be Meso-Americans, League of Ausberg or AWI, so I can look and say "that's nice, but not my period".

My spreadsheet tracks my purchases and paintings and dynamically calculates the point at which my lead mountain will be exhausted.

At the moment 5th May 2025. I hoping to extend this somewhat, because it's a bit too close to my daughter's birthday.
