No it doesn't.  The truth is, though, that my father helped me out over the years and I'm happy to do the same for my son when I can.  After all, it's what parents do is it not?

The responsible ones. Let us remember the others who see kids as convenient slaves to support them in old age!

I totally agree, I help mine out when there is a need or I can lighten the financial load.

The exception was when my second daughter was just spending money like water and each time I sorted things out, and made provision that she could get by, she went behind my back to borrow more from elsewhere. On that occasion we "had words" and I made her pay back what I had given her. She eventually got straight, although she still seems to save very little despite living at home with my Ex.

Well, yes, there are some like that.  I have always thought that prospective parents ought to be required to pass a test before being allowed to breed. ;)

Yes, that would be a great improvement.

Careful here .... often those who were most abused themselves as children become abusers. They need help as much as they need to be contained safely.

Is this the opportunity to mention that since Prince Andrew has been made Earl of Inverness some Scots have taken to calling him The Loch Ness Noncer?

Agreed, but if they go on to become abusers, sterilisation should break the chain of abuse. Thus reducing the number of abusers for further generations.

Probably

Just a little story which for reasons that are unclear to me  I wish to share.. I used to work as an advocate for all  sorts of  marginalized groups and one of my clients was trying to recover her  child from, social services. It concerns a youngish lady I shall call X , Now, we read through the social service notes together and it said "as X was abused as a child there is a high chance that she  herself will become an abuser.  I said to X – that seem remarkably unfair and even logically questionable." To which she said – "I don't know Ian – what I do know is that it is rubbish and I was never abused as a child" Basically social services had confused the notes on two of their charges to the detriment of X and her attempt to get her family back together.
Anyway just a little story  around  abusers  real and supposed

Now the case  involving the 6ft tall fetish model and the gypsy curse I will leave for another time

It deepens like a coastal shelf.

And don't have any kids yourself.

On 'Confusion' of records.
Dentist, a few years ago. Well knackered tooth. X Rays before referral to Dental Hospital for extraction... dentist put one up.
"Oh Dear! Well, THAT one looks very bad too... I'll add it onto notes."
THEN, had another think... and realised Assistant had put X Ray WRONG WAY ROUND!

Talking to Radiographer... happens quite often!  Pre op.
VERY occasionally, in Hospital Op theatre, Good surgeon might think "Well, That does not look bad... let's  double check, again!"
I think it becomes filed as 'Exploratory Surgery'... do stress, VERY rare! And, at least the good bit has been looked at!

Still got what is left of tooth, maybe 6 years on!

"My Lord... THERE are your Gums!"  ;)

The eldest attended the Societies open day last week and chose himself a few clubs to join, those being Birdwatching (fair enough), Tabletop Gaming (he plays Magic and D&D) and... Medieval Re-enactment?!  He's never mentioned any interest in this previously but he said that they had two guys sword fighting outside so it looked like fun.  He might change his mind when they throw 25kg of chainmail on him...
