Hi FSN

Love the Chieftains above (who couldn't)?  :)

But (sorry for the 'but') the 'green' doesn't look quite right to me, shouldn't it be a bit, eh, 'greener'?

Cheers Paul

QuoteNot sure about coat colours. Pretty much every source says white coats for all four regiments, but Suhr brothers show blue coats for at least part of some regiments.

Anyone done the Spanish yet? Any tips?

The reason some Spanish line infantry regiments are shown in blue and some in white is because from 1802 the army was going through the process of issuing new uniforms.  In early 1808 three uniforms were in use, those issued in 1797, 1802 and 1805

The old fashioned uniform with white coat, dating from 1797, was replaced in 1802 by a new uniform which included a dark sky-blue jacket.  This was not popular and in 1805 the infantry reverted to its traditional white with a white jacket, with distinctive facings, in similar style to the 1802 uniform.

None of these changes were complete by 1808 and three regiments still wore the old 1797 uniform, while 12 still wore the 1802 dark sky-blue uniform.

In early 1808 those regiments still wearing earlier uniforms were as below.  The rest had been issued with the 1805 uniform.

Blue 1802 Uniform
Aragon
Corona
Castilla
Espana
Estado
Extramadura
Granada
Leon
Princesa (in 1808, while in Denmark, issued with white jackets made in Paris, hence both blue and white shown in the Suhr illustrations)
Rey
Reina
Zaragoza

White 1797 Uniform
Fijo de Cueta
Jaen
Malaga

This comes from Summerfield and Cronin 'Spanish Infantry of the Early Peninsular War'

Yesterday I went to see the surgeon again.

Was told that my sepsis problem had probably been caused by my appendix. The suggestion was that the appendix had got blocked and then inflated and burst. They could do some exploratory surgery, but the collected opinion was that the appendix had been "obliterated" and that surgery would find nothing.

"Wouldn't that have hurt?" I asked.
"Oh yes." Was the reply.

Since I felt no pain then either a) I'm a flippin' hero or b) they don't really know what happened.

Either way, I'm glad to have been released from the clutches of the NHS.

Phones and Mr. Angry. What IS it with organisations? No contact No. provided for a site. 'National' service 'Helpline' line... several Menu paths... not appropriate... then...  " Due to exceptional call volumes... estimated response time 30mins +."
Online... speak to our 'Friendly Chatbot'... which would not even load... and would have been no damn use anyway.
Eventually... managed to get a number from helpful 'other' site... (Actually a Fleet Maintenance depot!).  Receptionist gave me another number... and got through to someone. Understanding, and OK.
Took about two hours... and this when Unwell and trying to 'Report Sick' as courtesy, rather than just not turn up!  :(  >:(

Guy Fawkes night. 10.30... at least Fireworks enthusiasts seem to have run out of ammo! Swear some of those things had more BANG than a 105! Wonder effect if one went off, somehow, in hand?
In my day they went fizz, phut.  ;D

LOL! As teen we even had hand made Rocket Launcher! Naughty! ;)

Not Team Yankee - support for the Cold War US infantry - M113's and a troop of mixed M60s (a Starship has snuck in somehow) with a couple of A10 Warthogs giving air cover.

I remember seeing an A10 Warthog hedge hopping many years ago by a village where I lived. I didn't hear it until it was almost next to me. Very impressive to see.

Years ago, hill walking in Snowdonia, was very startled to find myself looking down onto the Tornadoes hurtling through the valley.

Where a friend lived near the Brecon Beacons, there was a valley you used to see various fighters whizzing up, which was pretty impressive, especially looking down on them too.

As a kid we often went to RAF Alconbury to see the various 'V' Bombers at the base, plus the Duxford Airshow of course.

I'm not exactly sure where "the course" is but this sounds like the famous "Mach Loop." Very popular with military aircraft enthusiasts and, of course, the military.

Loads of spectacular videos on YouTube, btw, .... although I wonder if they are really there for the flying .....   :-\
