QuoteSome media chatter he may be George VII rather than Charles III.
RIP Elizabeth II.

Quote from: Leon on 08 September 2022, 06:11:17 PMJust saw the news now, we'd heard the reports earlier today that she wasn't doing too well.  I'm not much of a monarchist but I've got to respect her sense of duty to the country and the years of service that she's put in.

It feels a bit odd as there's not many around who remember the last time we had a change of monarch.  New currency, new stamps, new words to the anthem... all feels a bit weird.

I feel sorry for him as I think he is going to be crucified by our yellow press

I suspect you are right and I fear his choosing to go with CHARLES rather than GEORGE, as he previously indicated, will too easily offer his detractors a comparative negative reference point.

I think remaining Charles, as he has been known to the public all his life, was the correct decision. To have changed it at 73 would have looked precious and artificial.  Sorry, however, it had to be announced by our new "Prime Minister", which seemed somewhat inappropriate. I hope he will be judged on his deeds, not his name.  But he has the hardest act to follow, may she rest in peace.

Well said.
The currency and stamp changes I'd not thought about.

We are all somewhat stunned here, even though we knew it was going to come at some point. May she rest in peace. God save the King!

Indeed. God Save The King

Somebody on Twitter pointed out no one is quite sure what happens next, as (no doubt it has been discussed in Whitehall) the last time this happened was 70 years ago, and the world is a very different place.

One assumes the Mint and Post Office have the appropriate dies ready to swap over, but it will take time for the money/stamps to get into general usage, even if you are still getting money and stamps.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

I'd not really thought about that aspect.  One potential issue is that he's always been very focussed on the climate but we've got a new Environment Secretary who doesn't believe in climate change, along with an energy Secretary who thinks fossil fuels are the answer.  So there's an easy attack line there for some of the government's client journalists.

Pierre... much the same here in this small corner of Canada... and well said.

Her Majesty & her mother were generally (politics aside) very well thought of here & many had very fond memories/stories of both of them going out of there way to chat & make people comfortable  for a large number of people here.... A few days ago she even took the time to send well wishes to the two communities where 10 people had died via stabbing & another 18 injured.  (The queen made 22 visits to Canada during her reign)

The only reason we have had currency with only Elizabeth II on it is decimalisation. As a child I remember being excited when I used coins dated during WW2 and that was more than two decades after it had finished!

More respect to her memory than being announced by the previous buffoon!
