T13A

Ah yes, the days when we actually had an airforce.

They seemed to be making a fuss yesterday in the news when we sent 2 aircraft (yes two aircraft, not 2 squadrons) as reinforcements to Romania.  :'(

Pictured is a Churchill Lakeman ARK (Armoured Ramp Carrier), an experimental version of the Churchill ARK. Unlike the original ARK, its bridge was to be used as an attachment to a standard Churchill, maintaining the turret and armament. The advantage here was that it could still be used to fight, however it was deemed too impractical due to the resulting high profile combined with a long and steep ramp. As a result it never saw combat.

What worries me is what Colne is going to do now. Jump?

Very cool photo  :o

What comes next would seem interesting... Colne jumping down, or reversing back down the ramp. Neither seem much fun.

Not quite sure what problem the fixed ramp carrier was trying to solve. Seems the number of times you would need to get up a 10' to 12' barrier would be fairly limited. The facine or SBG variants seem much more generally useful as could be used to help cross a vertical barrier, or the more common ditch / trench barrier.

Mind the gap Chaps.

Very handy if Jerry takes refuge on the first floor.
Or for going "Hull down" behind a bungalow.

The Lockheed XM-808 Twister.
An 8x8 articulated armoured car with a 20mm Hispano-Suiza cannon.
The five-ton, 8x8 armoured car has two main body segments joined by a pivotal yoke. Independently suspended wheels at the front and a rear walking-beam suspension allow the Twister to keep all eight wheels on the ground even over rough terrain. The Twister had a top speed of 65mph and could reach 45mph from a standing start in 18 seconds.

Oooh! Pause the Praying Mantis Dave, I want some of these!

Parvesi Armstrong-Siddeley Multi-Wheel Drive Experimental Tractor.
Built in 1932, the 8x8 tractor was based on the twin axle, articulated Parvesi P4, powered by a five-cylinder radial air-cooling engine with an output of 30 hp.

Throughout The Second World War, the Allies, and British in particular, were looking at innovative mine-clearance methods for their vehicles. This one might have been too innovative. The board reads: 'GAS TURBINE (2000lb THRUST)... JET PIPE'. It is mounted on a Valentine hull.

Disappointed this isn't a jet propelled tank.

Not jet propelled, but it does have a couple of Mig-21 engines bolted onto a T-34:

Seems an interesting idea. :o :o

Not sure what stops it from being a jet propelled tank (other than the direction the jet is pointed)

The thrust looks to be a pretty narrow jet, so would it get mines in front of the tracks? Perhaps this is why if never went into production. Or that having a fragile jet engine on the front of a tank would just get shot up (and hit by bits of exploding mine if it did work)

I suppose on the path to something that works you have to try a few experiments!
