And while I take on board your observations and suggestions, I suspect the issue is the colour I have selected to paint the washer contrasting too sharply with the colour I have chosen for the base.

Yes, it may be with a bit of the paler brown on the sides they will blend in more. Also the close up photo, from a low angle is very different to how they will look in a game.

I appreciate the suggestion about the warbases, the problem is that the bases will be used for other things, like a 15mm WWII project that occasionally gets some love, and those figures are based on pennies.

Very nice indeed you are certainly putting a lot of work in this project

take care

The latest tile is almost done...

The wooden planking needs painting but other than that it's done.

I've spent the week flitting around like the proverbial blue bottomed fly, half making woods, and half painting soldiers and half researching unit organizations and half.... I blame coffee - http://www.trinity.edu/jdunn/spiderdrugs.htm - it didn't help that for two days I couldn't find my tape measure due to my youngest using it as light sabre, quite why I didn't think to look in the linen basket first I don't know.

So now I have 3' by 1' of battlefield - I'm not sure what that equates to in London Buses or Football piitches - by I do know that I have one more tile to do and I have completed the front line.

Sorry I was overly grumpy.

If you were, good sir, I did not notice. I just assumed there was a slice of modesty going on. You should be rightly proud of this, the fact you are finding the time to produce such stellar terrain from scratch is outstanding.
Thank you.

The farm and tile is now done....

A rather dark view of the three completed tiles, along with the other terrain bits and pieces I have been making...

A few shots of the project so far, with a little help from my friends...

A fine realisation of what, after all, is a fairly intricate terrain, fateeore. Can't see the trees surviving the first artillery barrage, though...  ;)
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.
