Title: Christmas list?
Post by: Leon on 09 November 2012, 02:47:45 AM
As we're getting close to the festive period, I thought it was time to find out what's on everyone's Xmas lists, Pendraken or otherwise?   :-\

Probably more FPW, Argentines, avoiding temptation of ACW...

MillenniumCon is this weekend here in Texas so there may be something that strikes my fancy.

Hopefully Father Christmas will bring me a new job. Was issued my at Risk letter straight after our AGM last night following a vote to dissolve the charity and merge with 5 other charities.

I'm hoping for a nice set of 10/15 mm elevated roads in silicon.  Expensive stuff, but sinceI have purchased a few silicon  hills, there's no way back, silicon stuff is great and looks great.

Well I now actually know what I'm getting for Xmas, as my partner bought me some OOP North American Combine miniatures for OGRE from a friend who had a need to divest himself of excess, due to emigrating to the USA.

Perhaps there's a niche here for a service that takes a general order, chooses a specific item and sends it to you gift-wrapped, marked "with love from Santa"?  :-\

One of either the Star Wars XWing miniatures game and a few add on packs or a Dux Britanarrium Romano British force from Gripping Beast.

The very first wargaming gifts I have EVER had from my wife/family.  :-[

Now if it were the former, what do you think are my chances of getting in a game on Christmas day?

Feckin' Wayland Games :d :d :d :d :d

First time ever my wife gives in and tries to buy me something wargames related and she gets an email saying half of the stuff she ordered in mid november which was highlighted as in stock now mysteriously isn't in stock anymore...

Several emails later she is still trying to get a refund and several emails later they are still advertising the very same items as being in stock...

Even if she gets a full refund today there's next to no chance she will get the items elsewhere.

I have just opened my email inbox and there's a Wayland Flyer highlighting X-Wing miniatures as being in stock...

How do people get away with this sh*t???

Ring them up pretending to be a new customer, ask whether those items are in stock for you to order online, if they say 'Yes', then Bingo, you got them.  If they're not in stock, ask why the website shows them differently?

Same experience here. Now I do know a few peeps in the business and one of those nice chaps personally knows the dude who runs W-Land. In short my friend thinks the W-Land dude is doing his business just for fun as he is quite wealthy already.
The practice of showing things as "in stock" when they really are not is common across various smaller wargames and even the Vallejo paints!

Now ordering my Vallejos from them (+postage to Germany was still cheaper than to get them locally) untill 2010 when my wife moved back to UK I can fairly state they did this "in sotck, oooops it is not" with me three times. Having done a bit of business witht hem I sent them a ticket asking them why thy treat a customer like this and politely asked them to refund me immediately. They did without question and since then no more business for them.

Depending on what you want I suggest ordering from more reliable sources first and foremost Pendraken/ Minibits. If you need another discounter like W-Land  try totalwargamer. Not the fastest on some days (apparently their brick store has priority) but deep discounts and comprehensive list of games. Also called them when my Spraypaint was delayed and they apologised, they would do it right now apologised again and told me the store had been exceptionally busy.

I would not go as far as endorse another vendor here. Especially since my days of wandering about for new systems are more or less over.

Claiming "live" stock levels when the reality is imho a bit shady to say the least is not offsetting the discounts they offer. W-Land - no thanks.
@Nosher:  Depending on what you want, maybe I can point you to another source? Worth a shot ?

You're right S.

Leon is obviously one of the guys who really, really goes for good/great customer service.
I'm honestly not just saying that, because he provides me with work....I'm proud to make figures for him...'Cos he cares !
Personally, I'd rather work with firms that do their utmost to 'keep the customer satisfied'....and I have worked with a few that DON'T have that attitude.
Strangely enough, I won't work alongside those particular ones anymore....I'd rather not be associated with them in any way.

I think Leon is possibly the only guy I do stuff for who doesn't have another job....The others I make soldiers for, all have a '9-5' ' main job and they produce figures because of a genuine love of the hobby.
A lot of them would LOVE to make their hobby a full time job.....But, as I know, that's a pretty long term project.....And juggling two jobs is one hell of a commitment....More power to their elbows.

I could ramble on for ages here....But I'll resist the temptation. ;)

Cheers - Phil.

Thanks for the comments guys, it means a lot for me and Dave to read things like this, especially when we're in one of those chaos periods like now!  Customer service has to be the priority for any business in my view, if you can't give your time and effort for the customers, then you shouldn't be in business.

That's unfortunately only kinda true!  Pendraken is my full-time job, but it's only a part-time wage, so I started up Minibits to supplement my income.  Now if I could only stop buying new ranges / products in, I might actually see some of it!  Too many idea's, too many shiny goodies which would look good on my website...!   :D

My Ex wife was like that.  I once made £200 selling stuff on ebay, spent £120 buying crappy tubs she wanted for the garden, but she still moaned when I bought toys with the other £80.

Thats why they invented Divorce  :d :d

I have had to scale down crimbo as we've got less coming in now, so the kids have priority over me and the wife! Having 4 of them is a pain to buy for, but its worth it to see their faces on the xmas morning!
We have agreed to get each other presents in the new year, so its not all bad as I'm after an optivisor too, and some Wargames factory zombies if I'm lucky! :D
