1) What rules did you use in your last game? - La Flota. Beta test of my home grown Armada period naval rules.
2) What forces were involved? - Spanish vs English. Spanish had 2 small, 2 medium, 2 large galleons and an Atlantic galleass guarding 1 large and 3 medium merchant ships from an English force of 2 small, 2 medium and 2 large galleons and 2 pairs of Cromsters
3) How many players were involved? - 2
4) How many times have you used these rules? - Only this once with this iteration of the rules
5) What do you think of the rules? - Have some promise but need more work.

Despite savaging the Spanish warships the English failed to stop the Treasure fleet reaching their destination intact. The Spanish Admiral, was gobsmacked to find that despite having lost his flagship and his freedom he'd won the game. Other than the merchants and one small galleon (that was only one hit from sinking) the Spanish fleet was either sunk or captured at game end.

I really like my pair of Cromsters. They keep my feet lovely and warm in winter.

Overall great fun and I'm looking forward to getting my En Garde "Red Guard" on the table. They look suspiciously like the "Cardinal's Guard in a certain tv series so I hope they don't die as easily. I've given mine a different uniform to encourage them to live longer.

Did I know what I was doing: No.

Did I understand the rules:No, as I've never looked at the book never mind read it.

Did I somehow succeed and break the back of the enemy army: Yes. [it being a multi-player, 3-a-side game and I controlled the Yorkist Centre. I got rid of my crap dice rolls early on and rolled great ones when it came to the clash of melee, after that I was back to rolling poorly]

Was it more luck than good generalship: Obviously!

The Federaion a new-fascist state - with the prime directive?  I think not.  The Federation was the obvious forerunner of the Rebel Alliance, if not the system actually replaced by the Empire itself!  What am I talking about, I know nothing about this at all!

A do-gooder mob that insists on it being 'their way or no-way', those that disagree are chemically brain washed into alternate life structures, there's no dissent allowed.

They may not have the evil mass-murder intent of other fascist states from history but they are totalitarian: alternate views are not acceptable, variance is not acceptable - the Prime Directive is sacrosanct right up to the point the viewpoint being protected ceases to agree with Star Fleet's ideals.

Hell even the crews of flagship starships have 'counsellors' on board to ensure compliance and the correct mental attitude is adhered to - previous cultures would have called them commissars.

We may not see them deploy a death star but they absolutely would do whatever was necessary to meet their ends - no matter the good intention, a policy of 'the ends justifying the means because we know best' is fundamentally no different from the Sith's, only the motive and what is considered 'best' is.

From all I can see the future earth of Star Fleet is utopian fascism. . .

I have now probably invested far more thought into this than the subject warrants and it is a derail, so apologies for that
