We had a bit of a dino hunt the other night, just messing around with the rules, to see what worked. it was a mix of tabletop and roleplay game.
The gist of it is the usual suspects Fanhard (A peer of the realm) and his associate and friend Mr Lyle (of the sugar family) are out hunting on an island owned by a very wealthy Businessman called Shakenbacker. His island is stuffed full of dinosaurs. along for the hunt is a Great movie star Victor Maraschino and an up and coming starlet Delores de Syn  who are evidently going to be making some movie on another island that involves something big and scary.

Anyway the hunt sets out, various dinosaurs are seen, shot or run away from (especilally a herd of Tricerapatops defending their young) and eventually the track down a big rex defending its kill in a stand of trees. There are no photos I am afraid as the card reader corrupted the sd card.... PANTS! >:(

IN cinematic terms the finale went something like this:

Fanhard held his hand out sideways and motioned for his party to get down. As he did so his eyes never left the stand of trees some two hundred yards away.  He was convinced he had found his quarry. The unmistakable odour of a carnivore wafted towards him on the warm breeze.
He slowly eased back the hammers on his rifle and then, checking carefully where he put his feet, advanced.
He had gone no more than ten yards when there was a sudden squawk and a thump behind him, he glanced back to see the ‘movie star’ sprawled face first on the ground. His eyes snapped back to the front as an angry roar erupted from the trees.
“Watch the trees!” he barked. Moving silently was no longer a necessity.

The thing that suddenly appeared from the foliage was immense it stood eighteen feet at the shoulder it’s head was as long as Fanhard was tall. It leant forward and roared again showing it’s foot long teeth. The roar caused a sudden commotion behind him. He heard screams and the sound of receding feet as most or all of his party vanished into the undergrowth.

The beast roared again then broke into a run aiming straight at Fanhard. He shouldered his weapon and waited. Someone appeared beside him.
“You want to wait till he gets close!” Ngoko pointed out.
Fanhard’s friend and tracker had remained with him. The thing was fast, it had covered the ground in long strides, a bit like an ostrich Fanhard thought. Waiting to fire he calmed his breathing and pulled the rifle tightly into his right shoulder.
Sixty yards, forty yards, thirty yards. The ground shook as the beast ran towards him.

His gun spoke flinging a .455 bullet straight into the chest of the creature, he fired a second time, again his bullet striking true. He dropped the empty weapon and reached out to Ngoko. The second weapon was thrust into his outstretched hand. As he shouldered it a rifle fired once then twice from his right. He watched both rounds strike, then fired himself. Blood fountained and the thing stumbled. Fanhard stepped aside as the creature thudded to the ground a mere three feet from his boots. A choking cloud of dust billowed around him. From within he could hear the rasping breathing of the creature and frantic kicking as it tried to stand. He reloaded his Express and made his way to the head. A baleful yellow eye watched him as he drew aim and fired straight into the eye socket. He fired a second time and the creature stiffened, then relaxed. A death rattle rumbled within the might chest and then silence apart from the wind and the barking call of some creature in the distance.

As the dust settled he noticed Mr Lyle swatting at the dust on his jacket with his hat.
He looked at Fanhard with a glint in his eye. “Well old boy, looks like we bagged ourselves a real live dinosaur!”
Fanhard smiled and nodded looking at their quarry, it was indeed huge, its body a Khaki green colour with reddish stripes across the back and down it’s massive back legs. The forearms however were tiny, mere stumps. It didn’t need to use them, he considered, the teeth in that head and claws on those back feet would make short work of anything up to and including a tank. As it lay stretched out on its front he judged the length to be somewhere near forty feet, and probably weighed…
“Seven tons you reckon?” Lyle commented pointing to the body with his hat.
“Nearer six old man,” Fanhard drawled “thanks for sticking by me the pair of you, however we seemed to have lost the rest of our party!”
Ngoko smiled. “Don’t you worry we will soon find them, especially after the movie hero pissed his pants, I can follow that trail with my head in a bag.”

Suddenly in the distance there came a number of scattered shots, followed by screaming.

Fanhard, Lyle and Ngoko grabbed their weapons and loped off into the brushwood leaving the tyrannosaur where it fell.

Nice write-up  8)

Bad card-reader though - I hope you've given it a stern talking-to  ;D

it was sent to the hell of bad card readers... the lights kept flickering...basically it was switching itself on and off in rapid sucession, just fried the card... 2gb card up the swanny, luckily 90% of the photos had been downloaded.

It was a good game though with lots of laughs all round.
it actually took 6 shots to bring down the rex. the last one was in base to base contact with fanhard, luckily his card came up first and he fired otherwise he would have had it. ;D

The terrain is partly painted this evening, just need some kind of a wash on it to fill in the gaps.  Thanks to NIk for his painitng 10mm pdf's as I painted the sand base and it works really well ;D

Cool - glad they're useful...I am looking forward to seeing some of your pics once you've sorted the technology!  ;D

HAve you ever noticed that no matter how many times you go over a piece of terrain when it is wet, s soon as it dries you can see all the white bits you missed >:(
Will get some taken today in the daylight, rather than using the flash

Well we had another game tonight, it went horribly wrong from move three. The happy hunters had been tasked to take down a Parasauralophus to prove they could hunt before taking on anything dangerous. http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc31/Maenoferren/DSCF2097.jpg
this shows the game at turn 4 the large disks near the party are raptor stand ins, apologies for the unfinished terrain,I ran out of time  :-[

They had gone three turns out of the gate and had spotted a flock of galiminus when I drew a club card, this meant that  something bad would happen, in this case 3 large raptors. The tracker/guide was very good at his knowledge of various dinosaurs, apart from the pack hunters. The problem was solved by Lord Addishum, Earl of Toxbury and Sturmbamfuherer Ulrich Von Schmurtzig who opened fire, killing two of the three.

However turn 4 meant reinforcements arrived with 8 of the beasties appearing in from the woods ( I drew another club) and encircling the hapless party. Three ran straight in and Attacked Sir Sidney Rough Diamond and his bearer, whilst the third attacked the guide. Everybody shot at something and all missed bar Lord Addishum, who killed his outright.

The next turn saw the raptors going first, another bearer went down and the rest closed in intent on their prey. A number of saved wound rolls later, a further 2 raptors were down and the party stood firm, rifles at their feet and colts spitting bullets left right and centre. Sir Sydney was in trouble with his beast so bravely he fired at the one attacking the guide, killing it with ease. the guide then took a shot at the raptor attacking Sir Syney, missing it completely and shooting the man instead, Sir sydney managed to soak the wound and had his hip flask blown apart instead.
Further flurries of shots and attacks occurred, with more wounds soaked and further raptors killed. At the end of turn 8 the one remaining raptor took flight and was gunned down by Sir Sydney with his winchester.

Von Schmurtzig was attacked every turn after the first and each time the raptor failed to wound him. Lord Addishum fired at the surviving raptor for 4 turns, never managing to kill it.We didnt get much further as a lot of the game had been taken up with the role play section in Puerto Rico. Another giggle of a game, with the hunters very quickly realising that they were the hunted.

Your reinforcements will be on their way tomorrow, so if they can find a cave and hold out, help is on it's way!

Hurrah! :D :D :D
considering they got about 300 yards from the gate, before running into difficulties, I feel I had better get the transport painted up as fast as possible so at least they can get to somewhere to shoot what they came to get! And at the rate they are going through gun holders the bearers pack would be very useful too.
