Before I go any further can I say that this is my first attempt at 10mm conversions using greenstuiff, the smallest I have done before is 28mm......so be gentle with me.

Having seen the Wulfheodenas re-enactors today at Dryham Park, I thought I would try converting some Pendraken 10mm Romans into 6th C Saxons with throwing axes and furs. The aim is if they look good enough when finished I will offer them to Leon as I think they might be useful to add to the catalogue?

Chatting to one of the re-enactors this afternoon he was explaining that they believe throwing axes were widely used in the 6th and 7th C, so the first job was to convert some spear throwers and holders into axe throwers by snipping off part of the spear, fililing it down, twisting the arms a little and then adding axe heads:

After that I decided to add some furs using green stuff as most of the reenactors seemes to favour a wolf pelt or similar around their neck:

Bigger pictures are available on my blog.

The fur with the wolf face across the shield needs a little more work as the dangling leg next to the face is a little long and I need to add some wolf ears, but given this is the first time I have tried converting 10mm I am pretty pleased with the results so far.

As ever, feedback is very welcome, but play nicely  :'(

I am not worthy of praise from you Phil, I don't know how the he'll you create the minis you do, pushing greenstuff about in this scale is bloody tricky to say the least.

Optivisors make a big difference Craig. At work I use a magnifying light an awful lot of the time, which makes a massive difference.

When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

Good job! A little advice: use less GS.

TinyTerrain

Thanks Phobos, your right, I have had to cut back some of the fur as it was too big. Next time less is more  :D

These look great. Would be interested to see them in production.

As a man about to embark on Dux Britanniarum in 10mm I'd appreciate something like that. Much keener on pre- than post-C9th.

So, never being one to stand still, I took the opportunity at lunchtime to knock up a couple more Wolf Saxons. Firstly I made a 4th guy with an Axe so I have a full base worth of Axe Warriors, all of which are different poses. I then thought it might be fun to start on a command stand and butchered another Roman spearman, and added in place of the spear the head from one of Pendragons Dogs and some plasticard and GS, to make a wolf standard bearer.

Looking again at last nights sculpts, I decided they had a bit too much GS on them and some of the furs looked a little large. So I took about 25% of the GS off of each, and decided to remove the wolfs head that was over one of the shields, so I could save the idea for a command figure instead of a warrior unit.

So heres the final line up so far, 4 Axe warriors, and the first of the command unit.

Thanks for all the comments so far,

Well done, Craig!   You have a clear talent for this "sculpting thing".  Now, about these skirmishing 1866 Bavarians I was thinking of..... :D
