Just looking at the new figures from Hawk Wargames    www.hawkwargames.com   very nice models and nice sculpts...

Leon you are not allowed to look in case it gives you ideas of  suddenly deciding you need  a new mansion or Porsche or a small island in the pacific
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

The price of those infantry is just ridiculous.

mijalo

Very nice but somewhat pricey :-\

Whilst I wont be buyng any there is no doubting that they are beautiful miniatures. The website oozes quality and for sci-fi figures (other than the Tau looking faction) they do give a proper sci-fi feel.

They are pricey, but to be fair, having seen them in the flesh at Salute, they are amazing.

Luddite

Well, they're certainly very nice.

However, £11 for 1 10mm vehicle (Kodiak armoured command vehicle)   :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

That is seriously extracting the urine.

Also, actually, although they're obviously well done, and a very interesting new area for resin (10mm), i'm not overly impressed, especially with the infantry.

I guess these exceed my 'limit' http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,4483.0.html !!!

As much as we need a load of 10mm Sci-Fi stuff (thats a hint Leon), at those prices I'll continue buying clicky stuff on E-Bay and rebasing it. Sorry Hawk, no sale.

Yep - same from me; not a fan of resin for anything other than scenery really anyway - and those prices are ridiculous. Good to see another manufacturer - but my bet's on this one revising their business model fairly rapidly (once the initial 'buzz' goes) or disappearing - mostly because 10mm is a niche scale I think...

If anyone does pick it up I'd be interested to hear how the game plays though...

The scenery looks great - but I suspect the prices will be daft.

Which is a real shame i think, given how perfectly it fits large scale gaming.

I think WM and 'Commander' have gone quite a way to bringing 10mm into the mainstream though.

Now if we could just get the big tournament sets like Osprey/Field of Glory, or DBx (being revitalised with DBA v3 in draft release at the moment, after the disastrous DBMM), then perhaps the 10mm tipping point could be reached whereby 10mm superceded 15mm as the 'massed battle' scale?

We're considering doing DBA v3 in 10mm.

There's two sides to this one.  The way they have presented their company, the website, the pictures, the preview at Salute, is all first class, very professional, and builds anticipation.  If the product and the service can match that, then they'll win a lot of customers over.

The downside comes with the pricing, and the potential risk of choosing 10mm.  As much as 10mm is growing every year, we're still a way behind 15's and 28's in market share terms, so to start a new company in 10mm is quite a risk, when for a small amount of extra investment, they could have done it in 15mm instead.  That being said though, it looks like they've ploughed a lot of time and money into this, so they must have done a good bit of market research (at least you'd hope they have!), and they've obviously concluded that either 10mm is the future of gaming (which we knew already!), or that there is a sufficiently large gap in 10mm Sci-Fi, and that they'd have next to no competition.  The pricing though is going to be a huge obstacle, as people can get more for their money in 15's with someone like Critical Mass.

Another factor will be the postage charges, which look to be designed to promote bigger orders.  Folks wanting to grab one or two of the vehicles won't stump up for the fixed postage as well, so they'll lose sales there.

So long-term, they'll either arrive with a bang, then see the sales taper off and have to rethink (as Nik says), or the product will be sufficiently tempting to bring people into 10mm Sci-Fi, and they'll do very well.  Personally, I hope they do well, as more people in this scale as a good thing, and our own Sci-Fi revamp will see boosted sales as a result, I'd assume.

There's a discussion on TMP about it at the moment: http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=270606 (I'm not sure how to take Manflesh's comment, is that meant in a positive or negative way?! :-\ )

I took it as slightly negative (as in good value but scuplting is not brilliant), but suspect he's refering to your old sci-fi ranges, which are a bit dated now.

Probably he isn't aware of the new stuff in the pipeline.

I saw Drop... Comm... miniatures at Salute and try comparation, throw the glass, with Pendraken infantry. Their foot miniatures are smaller and thinner than Pendraken. I think could be really difficult match the two companies ranges. The Drop.. Com.. vehicles and walkers are very pretty and can be usefull addition. The prices are crazily high but I don't joke with myself.... the price never stop anyone in our hobby. A lots of people grabs a lots of GW stuffs every day.

I've not seen these in the flesh so to speak, but whilst pics of painted mini are certainly impressive I have my reservations.

Infantry - I'm not overly keen, as proportions seem off to me, I'd rather stick to Pendraken.

Vehicles - these look amazing with their pro paint jobs, but I know I could never match them and many are just too 'fussy'.

Price? I think they are trying to out do GW! To rich for me, but there are plenty out there willing to pay that much .... But there enough of those people?

Just my thoughts.

Cheers,

Kev
