Cold War infantry and AFV's

Last night I dug out my copy of CWCI to read in the garden, after looking at the new Arab-Israeli ranges. Having played some great games in a campaign way back when set in Germany in the 1980's, I was wondering when we might see some NATO & Warsaw Pact infantry? Also AFV's such as the Chieftain, Leopard, Merkava etc.

The reason I ask is that I'm pondering a sort of Cold War Gone Tepid campaign set in the Balkans area between two ImagiNations countries, but need ideally some of the above. Any info greatly appreciated :) .

Hi Steve

I must leave the comments about the figure ranges to Leon, but the new Greek, Turkish and Yugoslavian Cold War army lists are on the drawing-board and reasonably well advanced.

The Albanians and Bulgarians are represented in the WarsawPact Grade II lists that are published. But the CWC-I Warsaw Pact Grade II are still very usable.

Cheers

Thanks Mark. I was planning on using the NATO and Warsaw Pact lists as a guide, but the ones you mentioned will be useful too :) . Really it's a chance to get some favourite toys on the table if truth be told!

This will of course lead to at least 3 people asking for Yugoslav vehicles in 10mm...... 8)

And why not .... a very sensible 'niche' market  ;D

I think there are some 1990's Balkan lists of the old Commanders website, put together by someone that served there IIRC.

Wish you'd said that a couple of weeks back, may have saved a lot of reasearch. There are only 3 vehicle Chassis you need and 9 varients in total. There is of course the one off T34 with rounded turret no dobut Dave will produce that one.

Carefull, you'll be giving Leon sleepless nights!

I'd buy some! Although a 1956 Yugoslav list is pretty cool, it has 88mmL71 PAK43 on cruciform mounts firing home-built APCR, StuG IIIG and the like alongside M47s, M18s, M36s and Sherman 76mm.

Rather think the 88 is a Flak 36, thats what The Stratigic Balance lists them as, along with 3.7" and 90mm US AA. All the kit you have listed was still around in the 90's hence my headaches, fortuneatly now with Mark.

The 1980's US and Soviet sculpts have just landed here so I'll be getting those photo'd tomorrow and uploaded for folks to look at.  Beyond that I'm not sure though, it'll largely depend on how the sales of these new ranges go.

As for vehicles, we're way behind as one of our vehicle designers has had to retire.  We've got a new sculptor that we're working with but it'll take a bit of time to get back on track with the schedule.  We'll have the first of his designs ready for release in the next fortnight or so, which will be T-64s, BMP-1s and a load of M3 halftrack variants.

QuoteRather think the 88 is a Flak 36,

Comes from Bojan, the resident Yugoslav expert on Tanknet
54 PAK43 & PAK43/41 were bought from France in 1959, with 1000x APCBC and 250x HE per gun - they had more guns earlier.
By 1960 they made home made APCR rounds for the gun, giving 1500x AP, 150x HVAP, 300x HE per gun in total.

One question: The "US HVAP" used in 88mm M54 subcaliber round was penetrator from M304 HVAP? Or from 76mm? I presume the 90mm, but want to check, just for sure.

90mm M304. Whole projectile was turned down on the lathe, new driving bands installed, and mated with 88/71 case and propellant charge used for PzGr.39."

Thanks for the update Leon and I'm really looking forward to seeing these new sculpts :) .

The Balkan stuff is in the downloads section, which includes background, rules and lists for the conflict. Hopefully it will be of use...

Big Insect

Now you have me confused Steve - can you post me to said download section on the Forum (or am I being dim!) ?
Thanks
