Interesting thought re the money laundering, Mark.

I know of some really top notch figure painters that get paid silly money...They've managed to get themselves big fan clubs, that want to own a 'figure painted by 'X'.

Cheers - Phil. :)

This is one of the things that has been discussed on other forums. Often the figures on sale are not that well painted - not even by my standard, let alone the likes of Kevin Dallimore or some of the stuff you see in the Pendraken competition. Yet if you look at their feedback  they have sold multiple items for several hundred pounds each  with excellent feedback.

In which case, your theory may well be true, Mark. :o

Gentlemen.

Do you face this sort of dilemma?

I'm in the middle of painting Austrian Napoleonics. I picked Grenneville's Division of the III Corps at Leipzig. 2 x Grenzer bttns, 2 x Light Dragoons regiments and a horse battery. I wanted the Light Dragoons to be in green coats to contrast with the white coated Cuirassiers.

Shock horror!  The two regiments (Klenau and Rosenberg) wore white coats! Drat! However, the two regiments in the 1st Lt Div (Emperor's and Vincent) wore green.

What do I do?
  • Paint 'em green
  • Swap the white coated regiments for the green - so have Emperor's and Vincent
  • Suck it up and have white coated light dragoons
  • Something else

Hmmm ... but then I'd have to buy the Jaegers to go with them, and that means to keep balance I'd have to buy another couple of regiments of line infantry ... and the artillery to go with it.  :-\

Good idea! :D

It is an excellent idea.  Another division by the looks of things, then you'll need another French division to balance things, which is an even better idea. :D

To quote Alice "I've had nothing yet, so I can't take more."

I'm coming round to the idea of getting some French. I'm happy with most of the cavalry (except Hussars of course); artillery is just artillery ... but the infantry is sooooo boooorinnnng. I can exempt the Swiss from that but (and I appreciate the heresy) the French army overall doesn't appeal.

So the French will have to wait until I have completed the Austrians, Poles, Russians, Spanish, Danes and Ottomans (Ottomen?). Maybe the Portuguese too.

Nobby it's possible to do a large French army with no French on it. Swiss, Dutch, CoR Italian etc...

Thank you. The Foreign Regiments give me hope.  :D

I'm thinking in the region of Cuirassier brigade, Dragoon brigade and 2 lt cav brigades. That would mean 15-16  infantry battalions.

The Swiss are an obvious addition, but they weren't at Leipzig - on which I've based my Prussian, Russian and Austrians.  I could go to Waterloo to match the British and Brunswickers - but there was only one Swiss bttn present.  :-\  Mayhap add in some of the Young Guard - but it would just feel unrepresentative.  :(

I'll just have to make do with Poles, Bavarians and Wurttembergers for now. :)

I empathise.  Painting any infantry can be a chore.  I've just finished the second British division for my Talavera project, some 400 figures.  Everything I look at has a red tinge to it at the moment.  Maintenance of the objective is fundamental.
