Just me then i guess - strange I see all the others but cant see those in original thread or on Leon's summary

Option 1.5 for me: simply don't vote for any competitions I'm personally involved in! No ethical dilemma of whether or not it's subjectively or objectively or ethically the correct decision to vote/not vote for particular entries; just the enjoyment of purely admiring all the entries.
Which is yet another reason to try and compete in more categories next time, as while I like voting, deciding is far too difficult.  :D

Also a sensible approach!

I have voted.
It was really hard work to select just five from so many excellent options.
I suffered no moral scruples since I didn't send an entry this year.

Big thanks to Leon for organising the show, and to all who entered.

The competition is a wonderful showcase for 10mm, showing how it bestrides detail and mass army (like a tiny colossus).
I certainly saw some creative painting styles/techniques which I really liked, but might never have thought of without the contest.

Good luck to all who entered.
And remember "It's the taking part".
Well, the taking part, the winning, crushing your enemies, driving them before you, etc etc.

I hope to be in it (though not necessarily to win it) in 2022.

Some very impressive painting there......way better than I could do.

Mind you I did enter a pair of WW1 trucks a couple of years ago that actually got 2 votes  :o

good luck and thanks to all who entered  :-bd

2 votes is better than none and participation is better (IMHO) than not  :D

I am lobbying Leon to retain this and to extend the categories - the pre-C20th single base infantry category was very hard - I'd be asking for a split between pre & post fire arms myself (with some allowances around the cross-over maybe.

I'm not sure where you'd split it, so here are a couple of vague suggestionms.

1. The "Firearm" axis:    No Firearms (Ancient and Medieval) / Firearms mixed with Pikes (Pike and shotte)  / Almost all foot have a firearm (Horse and musket).

2. The "Uniform" axis     Most foot not wearing uniforms (Ancient and Medieval) / Most foot wearing Uniforms (Pike and shotte and later).

The Uniform axis is probably more relevant to a painting competition, but I think the problems with finer subclasses are apparent.
I can already think of a host of exceptions that would end up in unexpected categories.

I agree Steve ... and what is a uniform ... as we see uniformed units back to the Hellenistic/Successor period and further back in China.

I like the idea of a Pike & Musket & before v a Horse & Musket later period - you'll always get exceptions but maybe a pre 1700 and post 1700 to end of C.19th.

Indeed, it's interesting that 20th century foot has it's own category, while the pre 20th century category is huge and I'm having a hard time making choices from so much excellence!  ~X(

The forum resources are split as Ancients to Renaissance (3000BC - 1680), Resources - Firelocks to Maxims (1680 - 1900), Resources - 20th Century. Which is maybe a neat break up, though I'd be in favour of Ancient/Medieval, Renaissance/Early Modern (1500-1788), Long 19th Century (1789 until just before WW1), 20th Century (WW1 and beyond)

This would then reflect the distribution of ranges across the Pendraken estate, given there's a large number of Renaissance/Early Modern ranges, then all the 18thC, Colonial, etc it seems sensible to have it on it's own rather than split between ancient and modern.

The 20thC was given its own category as it could never compete against the colourful uniforms and lines of troops of earlier periods. Splitting pre-20thC into various periods has its merits, but drawing the line of each would be difficult, unless you used the Pendraken Catalogue as a basis.

That would seem sensible - as this is a Pendraken painting competition  :)

20th century makes sense.
By then even the stubbornest, stiff moustache from the Staff College had noticed that concealment was an improvement over leaden death.

(Well all, except fans of Les Pantalons Rouges).
