I'm also currently painting these lovely figures, trying out a new basing system that will be suitable for both skirmish level games like Rebels & Patriots and larger battles at regiment or battalion level. Having the AWI supplement, I'm currently looking at Black Powder for the latter. What rules do you propose to use?
