Assuming the battle opens with the the opposing forces at either end of a large, open field I'd say five to four on the Napoleonic artillery (unless, of course, the purple things have wings or jet packs).

I take your point, however, the purple things are exquisitely painted, but the artillery is very serviceable and painted to look the part.
In the proposed battle above once the shooting and clawing starts nobody will notice the difference in detailing! Congrats on your consistent progress in diminishing the mountain!

I think you are right about the Slaanesh possessed marines AKA the purple things. I've used them once in a game, and they got shot to pieces without doing anything!

Somebody fell out of the ugly tree hitting all the branches on the way down!

I think he ate the ugly tree...

Other things - very detailed painting

As you say it is about finding a level of detail that works on the table and allows you to produce at a reasonable rate

Yes, happy to have found the sweet spot!

In other news, i just finished putting togheter a travel version of Song of blades and heroes. I'm leaving for Crete tomorrow so just in time! Would have flocked the bases a bit, but i needed to pack them so they'll have to do!

components:
Surplus memoir 44 board
some epic 40k ruins
some hedges i have from my 10mm setup
some hit marker dice
a stick to chop into the measurement sticks
a deadzone unit box
a perry miniatures box wich used to contain ponsonby!
some 1cent pieces
paper models from junior general (by knight errant and mapleraven, thank you guys for the nice minis!)
some paper woods printed from junior general

the bunch

close up of the 'standees'

all fits in the deadzone box (a bit like a vhs box)

et voila, compact game!!

Finished the first of my punic wars minis:

the elephants

A stand of balearic slingers (using gre12 greek slingers)

The stand has a little peg at the back, to hold a status cube (i'll talk more about that in a separate post later, for now just know different colours mark a different 'status' for the unit)

Am not completely happy with the bases, think i made them 'too' green. Will see what it looks like on a completely formed base and see if i keep it.

So,adding 22 model means: 479 models painted and 13 forces done:

1) pirates   20
2) privateers 10
3) British forces to battle the pirates 19
4) bolt action USMC  33
5)  bolt action IJA 33
6) bolt action germans 21
7) bolt action US airborne 30
8 ) deadzone marauder warband 13
9)  deadzone plague zombies mob 30
10) terminator force 31
11) resistance force 39
12) soviet additions 30
13)ACW additions
