Hi All,

Techno's milestone got me thinking.

Mrs Orcs and I have been together for just over 12 years, but not being married obviously do not have a "wedding anniversary" to celebrate the years together.

Have any of you who are unmarried found a suitable substitute to celebrate the years together?

Hmm, we have an anniversary, but had been a couple for several years when we were wed; not an uncommon state of affairs. Two anniversaries, wouldn't you say?

Don't elves count their birthdays from conception, rather than birth? Not sure how much direct relevance this has, but I think it makes me glad I'm not an elf.

We have just celebrated our 47th wedding anniversary BUT if I had to pick an alternative event (and this might work for you also):
The anniversary of the first time she rolled her eyes at something I said, but didn't otherwise comment.

We've always used the day we started 'going out', and we deliberately got married on that same date so that we didn't have to remember another anniversary!  So, 14 years together, only 2 of them married.

I can't even remember the date we started 'going out'.

It certainly wasn't in 'Summer'.
I can remember the party we both attended.....And being told by my Best Man to be..."Phil.....It's obvious she wants to go out with you...If you don't ask her out, we'll give you such a slap."

Wedding day, 1976, was one of the hottest days of the Summer, and I seem to remember we had a Minister for droughts that year.
Think July the third that year was the Mens' final day at Wimbledon.....As my Nan kept disappearing to watch it....And getting a bit 'tiddly'.....She wanted "Nattassie" (Slur, slur)...to beat Borg.

As it was so hot, the vicar turned up in shorts and a T-shirt, before he changed into his 'robes', which brought the comment from the MIL....."Who on Earth's that ?.....Doesn't he know there's a wedding on ?"  X_X ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

If we wanted to we could have two anniversaries -the one where we got married and then the one we got married again. The first one was a piece of wossname to remember as it was 6 months to the day after my birthday; the second is a bit more tricky in that I can remember the month but I'm always one day out. We don't count the three year gap as anything so we have been married for 37 years this year.

We always celebrated the day we met (we've been a couple ever since) until we got married, then that took over.

I can't remember the date we first went out but it was the Sunday after the F.A. Cup final in 1981. We got married on independence day (4th July) 1987 and have been that way ever since (29 years this year). My Mrs must deserve a medal for putting up with my bad jokes this long   ;D ;D ;D ;D

Orcs

Thanks for all your suggestions. some are a little tricky to use

Mts Orcs and I had known each other for about 8 years before we "got together".  the trouble is that we were both married when we got together. :-[

I doubt we will ever get married as  my ex put me off that well and truly.

We got married on the hottest day in modern history, ever!
No way to forget that.
We also caused a slight incident with helium balloons and Luton approach flight path!

Now, now. Are we sullying a lady's reputation here?
