Straight off my head KT is the 1866 Austrian in greatcoat and Shako for early 1914 Belgian line infantry.

The Belgians do have a committed range, so I will try to use the proxies for armies with no ranges. Next set will be using Italian and French figures for the Argentinian and Paraguayan armies of the War of Triple Alliance.

Leman

The Pendraken Belgians are only in the Yser uniform so are not really very useful for pre-Marne activities.

Oh my you are quite right. I guess I now know what to paint my lone Austrian as.

Whereas, of course, the lancers are in the czapka, abandoned well before the adoption of the Yser uniform.

The blog has been updated. Paraguayans, Brits, Belgians Early 1914, and German Legion 1848-1849

They are looking good KT and hopefully will inspire more people to try these periods in 10mm. The Canadian cavalry in the pill box cap (CM8) would also make useful British home service cavalry.

Very interesting KT, thanks for the information and a very good blog...amazing number of C19 battles that I've never heard of  :)

Okay Leman - can you expand on your recommendations for depicting the Belgians as at the outbreak of war (as at the time of the battle of Halen) in 10mm? I realise that there are other 10/12mm manufacturers who do "WW1 Belgians" but can one depict the Cavalry Division and 4th Mixed Brigade plus attached Artillery and Caraibiner Cyclists units "accurately" using PM figures from their C19 and WW1 ranges, or will it have to be a mix from more than one manufacturing source? (e.g dog carts for the MG's?)

I have all the Germans that are needed for the opposition already  ;)

Cheers

Given that I gave up on this in the end and went 15mm instead, here are some suggestions:

a) Belgian infantry in greatcoat and shako - Pendraken 1866 Austrian infantry, Irregular Belgian infantry

b) Dog carts with machine guns - Irregular

c) Guides cavalry - Pendraken

d) Lancer cavalry - Pendraken

e)Chasseur cavalry - Pendraken FPW French Chasseur d'Afrique

f) Howitzer - Irregular

g) Chasseur infantry - Austrian 1866 jager, but you would have to trim the feathers from the hat.

h) Minerva armoured car - there is a 12mm one available from a Dutch or Belgian firm. Afraid I can't remember which but I'm sure someone else on the forum knows.

Not sure how you would source cyclists in 10mm. Irregular also include in their 10mm range a machine gun, 75mm gun and a range of infantry and staff officers. If you can get hold of a 10mm figure in peakless cap and greatcoat (possibly Crimean Russian) then you would have a proxy for the Belgian guard infantry - not a really great one and the command figures in the pack are in  helmets.

Hello PtS

There's the Pendraken German and Japanese WW2 cyclists:-

The only cyclists I know of, apart from these, are the Pithead ones but they are in greatcoat and Adrian.

Nothing easily proxisifiable. (Shhh....I'm waiting for FK)

Cheers
