kept avoiding the scheduled updates but it crept up and hit me while otherwise distracted. I awoke to a not too unhappy place (ie it seems ok to me)

The first time it downloaded, Matt.......It worked really nicely for a week......Then went absolutely pants. Which is why I paid an IT bod to come round and put it back to '8'.

It seems to work well on some PCs....and on others....... X_X

I'm afraid I take the view of 'Once bitten, twice shy', which is why I'm avoiding it like the plague.
Hope you don't have probs !

Strangely the work computer is completely unaffected and hasn't mentioned 10 to me at all.

So you're using a Mac then?

Aha !

Another update to do with Windows 10 has appeared.....That one can 'bewgar' off too.  :P ;)

Now.......On a very slightly different tack.

I'm pretty sure Guy put in a post about 'Onedrive' in another topic, and how those awfully nice people at Microsoft were going to make that a 'pay for it, if you want it facility.'

That seems to be right.
Pretty sure it was a genuine mail that came from Microsoft....It didn't ask me to do anything, and there weren't any attachments......It just informed me that the limit for storage on Onedrive was being lowered from 15Gb to 5Gb...But as I hadn't exceeded 5Gb......I didn't need to do anything.
Anyone else got that one ?

I'm going to follow Mike's lead and get a second external hard drive, as well.
Then I can alternate their use, and hopefully never lose more than a few day's info.
(Where's the Argos catalogue ?  ;))

Lord Kermit of Birkenhead

Yes I had that one a while back. Of no interest as I'm using dropbox.

I got the 15 down to 5 two or three weeks ago - the one where they said basically that they must have be crazy to think they could offer 15GB storage for free. Like you I was under the five limit and will keep it that way. I suspect that Win10 will end up with a small monthly fee at some point.

Still, I like OneDrive for the ease of file sharing across platforms.

Yeeeees !....That's what I was imagining.  ;).....But how small ?

Mind you... If 10 is really going to be the final version, they've got to make money somehow, I guess.

And.......

KB 3035583 plus KB 3150513 uninstalled this morning.

By my reckoning, I should only have get rid of these another 15-20 times before they give up. (Except they'll probably extend the 'free period', and keep going with the 'nagware'.)

Pests !!

Cheers - Phil.

I admire your optimism. I truly do!  :)

I'm sure you'll be right, Guy.

Like I said, above, I expect they'll extend the 'free period' after the end of July.....and keep going for AGES.  :'( :'( :'( :'(

I believe there's a way to stop it completely...But that involves doing something on the PC I'm not absolutely sure about. :-SS :-SS :-SS :-SS :-SS
(And they'll probably bypass that anyway.)

You are probably right - the "free" date is a moving target. I haven't followed this real closely but I think there will multiple "attack" paths to force the move to Win10. I think the business model is to continue to become more and more annoying until there is only Win10 - then exact a recurring charge. The typical user won't care as long as Facebook and x-box work. Holdouts will have to spend more and more time and energy until resistance truly becomes futile. Then one OS release to rule them all and in the darkness bind them. Consider around 1.5 billion users each paying 1£ a month(for openers) - awsome. This will help the move toward no more hard currency also.
Sorry - getting into rant mode!  :)
