Played Epic on Friday, Space Marines vs Tau

The Tau are a new army to our group - so we are still learning about them. From their first outing a couple of weeks ago its was noted just how much anti-armour shooting they put out. And from looking at their stats, just how bad they are in close combat. So a plan was hatched for the Marines to close in as fast as possible!

Early stages, the Marine attack is looking to concentrate on the tower blocks in the middle, starting with an air strike, as the Tau had nicely bunched up here. Around this point we discovered how good the Tau AA is. But fortunately Imperial aircraft are well armoured.

Mid game - the SM bikes on the fly over are positioned to engage the Tau walkers on the flyover. Who have just pummelled the marines who had advanced, but are now cowering at the back of the table. In the centre the combined SM assault is about to clear the tower blocks. Barely seen on the far side the blood angels are sweeping round that flank.

The game finished (due to the lateness of the hour) with the main rocket launcher bunker contested by both sides, and each side holding one of the other two objectives. The Tau were fortunate in being able to launch a rocket, which has the narrative end to the game. If another turn had been fought - I'm not sure which way it would have gone. The Tau still had two very strong formations in the centre of the board. And most SM formations were damaged to a degree.

Nice game, and fine models and terrain :)

It will take some time to see through the thread - you are a very active gamer & painter I see ;)

Thanks chaps. I should have said that most of the stuff in those photos isn't mine - only the yellow marines are mine.

Little and often - both with painting and playing. We have a good group locally and meet most Fridays for a game. I try to get some painting in most evenings which really helps keep projects moving.

Ta Phil

Painted these Spanish swordsmen a little while ago, but only took photos today, took them into the conservatory to get good light, but not sure it really worked.

A pretty simple paint job, as they have a lot of armour. Went for some yellow stripes on the pants to give a spanish theme.
