I think it should just be a lengthened version of the theme from The Navy Lark and have done with it...... 

My school song was Jerusalem - truly weird as the school was in Wales.

I was rather a fan of "England" by Ralph McTell when it came out in the early 1980s.  Particularly the full version with the lines regarding the rows and rows of crosses, and the corner of a foreign field, which seem to have dropped out of current versions.  I took a cassette of it with me when I went to Croatia in 1991, and I always found it very moving.

The English have fought just about everyone, so why have the national anthem just insulting the Scots, lets annoy them all!

I think anthems should in some way  reflect the past and ancestry of a country

So could you just not take a verse from each of  German, French and each of The Scandinavian countries and mix them up😀

I'd be tempted to go all Euro, and use Ken McLeod's quote, maybe set to some German techno-noise.
