So they're on about a new national anthem for England (I thought we had one?!) 

Anyway, here's four suggestions from me... Enjoy  ;D

I think it should just be a lengthened version of the theme from The Navy Lark and have done with it......  :D

I was rather a fan of "England" by Ralph McTell when it came out in the early 1980s.  Particularly the full version with the lines regarding the rows and rows of crosses, and the corner of a foreign field, which seem to have dropped out of current versions.  I took a cassette of it with me when I went to Croatia in 1991, and I always found it very moving.
