After a day in Bath got to first place I was keen to get to today...Tank Museum at Bovington.

Lets just say that I got my moneys worth.

Mrs Shy retired to the car after first section to read Jane Austen....can't imagine why  :o

I left sometime later...just before they chased me out  at closing time.

Best £13 I've spent so far  ;)

Good to read you enjoyed the visit. It's been many, many years since I last visited The Tank Museum. For me, it was simply awesome to see all of these AFV, etc. 'in the flesh' (as it were) when previously I'd only seen them as models or in photographs.  Puts me in the mood to dig out my old photos of the place.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

What's in Lansdown Leman? Conducted a "grid search" of that area the other day after a slightly wrong turn but :-[

FSN would love it....more  Centurions than you can shake a stick at, including a Swedish one (no its not blonde) and one cut in half to show it in section.

Lansdown is the site of an English Civil War battle. I believe it now has signs showing the major parts of the engagement, plus a lovely monument to the Royalist commander killed in the battle. Close by is also a stone age settlement, the outlines of which can be seen on the ground.

Also worth checking out Solsbury Hill (of Peter Gabriel fame) that is an Iron Age hill fort overlooking Bath and one of the possible sites for the battle of Mons Badonicus of Arthurian legend. It features in Bernard Cornwalls Arthurian trilogy.

Okay thanks..didn't see anything about the ECW battle, too busy looking at Jane Austen stuff with Mrs Shy  8)

Arrived in London today....just missed a 8 mile traffic jam on the M25 since we were going the other way.

The tank museum is great but if you get the chance to see 'Tank Fest' it's awesome.  Many of the tanks are moved outside and there are a lot of extra vehicles on show and of course the highlight is the tanks and other AFVs driving round the arena.  I went a couple of years ago and was amazed to see the Tiger going through its paces, the Valentine which came on just afterwards seemed even more out classed than just seeing them as static displays.

The next 'Tank Fest' is on in a couple of weeks.

I'll be back home by then Hussar, but that would be good day out.

Off to IWM Duxford today with a kiwi gamer I know who lives in London.

Another day another museum.....life is tough  ;)

Ended up at RAF museum instead as its much closer to where we're staying. Free entry and lots of stuff not seen before.
Their 1940 display was really god.

Went with Chris H who used to be based in Wellington but moved to uk about 10 years ago.

Meanwhile Mrs Shy went to Kensington....just for a look  :o
