Welcome, Captain - good to see another Somerset resident here  :)

I live on the top of Brendon Hill on Exmoor, but work in Edington & go to Minehead for our small but perfectly formed war gaming club - meets at The Old Ship Aground on Minehead harbour pretty much every Wednesday night.

Be good to catch up at some point...

Hi Cap'n

Welcome and just in case you are not aware there is the Mid Somerset Wargamers in Wells. I'm about 20 minutes (in the car) due west of Wells. Any thoughts on what rules you like?

Here is a link to the club: http://midsomersetwargamers.nicksweb.co.uk/

Dear Captain Sensible, or may I call you Doris?

I'd be careful of wanting to meet any of the Forum members, because frankly some of them are a bit potty. At least that's what they tell me. "There's some strange people on this Forum" they say, and I agree. Not me of course, I'm a bright and as normal as the the day is peanut butter flavoured.

Ottoman Empire eh? I wanted to do a water mammal army myself. I think there's some ratmen and fishboys in the fantasy section.

Might I ask if you're a big fan of Centurions, or a massive fan?

Anyway, Cadet Captain, welcome to the thingy. I'm sure you'll find that you can be quite impressive with 10mm!

What do you mean it's not Otterman?- FSN

You can call me Doris but it will cost you an extra 20 quid. Centurions? Big lumps of metal in Bronze Green? Absolutely!

Paul, I don't know enough about what rules are currently in vogue to make an informed choice. I bought the FoGR set on a whim but I think I would like to start with something a bit simpler and perhaps quicker. I thought the whole FoG thing was supposed to be 'fast-play' but it seems every bit as complex as the old school WRG rules from the 1980s. To be fair though, I haven't used them in anger yet. I'm going to the show at Reading next weekend and will sniff about and see what catches my fancy.

Hello CS

Since you've been away from the scene for a while you might like to check out the Free Wargame Wikia http://freewargamesrules.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Renaissance. There are many Ren, etc type rules to look at. It is a great resource. For simple rules have a look at Lion of the North and the Perfect Captain has Spanish Fury - Battle and Actions. Perfect Captain has an active Yahoo group that can help with hints and army lists, etc.

Cheers

I also have just joined the forum . I have been Using 28mm for the past 20+ years, but due to the cost of miniatures I have sold my collections to Colonel Bill. And I have just ordered a AWI British Army Pack to start of with .I also have a large amount of Baccus and Heroic and Ros in my Lead Mountain. A word of Warning, All Wargamers have a Mountain of unpainted figures in bags and boxes, So good luck with 10mm Wargaming cheers Alex Mc.

Techno

Welcome aboard again, Alex.
Cheers - Phil

Hi CS

If you are going to the Mid Somerset Wargamers in Wells one evening let me know (I do not go every week) and I'll meet you there and we can have a chat.

Incidentally I use FOGR for my 15mm English Civil War and like them, although I still have to refer to the rule book quite often.

Cheers Paul
