Capt Sensible

Hello all,

I'm returning to the hobby after a break of some 20 years or so. I've long had an interest in the Ottoman Empire but never had an opportunity before to combine that with wargaming. 10mm wasn't part of the scene when I was last active but I'm impressed with the range and quality of figures now available. 15mm used to be my scale of choice but £80 or so for a FoGR 1000 pt army is a bit rich. So, 10mm and Pendraken it is.

I'm not a member of any clubs - yet - and live in mid-Somerset, after years spent following work around the country. I look forward to perhaps meeting some of you at the various shows etc over the next few months.

Welcome to the forum

I presume touring with the Damned limits your wargaming activities

But 10mm is the way to go these days especially with the prices of 15mm these days
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Welcome from me too, CS. :-h

Hi, welcome to the madhouse forum.

My experience is that a friendlier, more knowledgable and more helpful bunch are hard to find online!

The only downside I can see is that as a group we are mad as a box of frogs ... with the honourable exception of fsn who makes a box of frogs look the very model of sanity :)

Welcome. I've just done the opposite and opted for some 15mm stuff because I'm playing a much smaller scale set of rules than I'm used to and I already had one of the armies in 15mm. My brother is involved in a club in Clevedon if that's any help.

Welcome, Captain - good to see another Somerset resident here  :)

I live on the top of Brendon Hill on Exmoor, but work in Edington & go to Minehead for our small but perfectly formed war gaming club - meets at The Old Ship Aground on Minehead harbour pretty much every Wednesday night.

Be good to catch up at some point...

Dear Captain Sensible, or may I call you Doris?

I'd be careful of wanting to meet any of the Forum members, because frankly some of them are a bit potty. At least that's what they tell me. "There's some strange people on this Forum" they say, and I agree. Not me of course, I'm a bright and as normal as the the day is peanut butter flavoured.

Ottoman Empire eh? I wanted to do a water mammal army myself. I think there's some ratmen and fishboys in the fantasy section.

Might I ask if you're a big fan of Centurions, or a massive fan?

Anyway, Cadet Captain, welcome to the thingy. I'm sure you'll find that you can be quite impressive with 10mm!

What do you mean it's not Otterman?- FSN

Hi Cap'n

Welcome and just in case you are not aware there is the Mid Somerset Wargamers in Wells. I'm about 20 minutes (in the car) due west of Wells. Any thoughts on what rules you like?

Here is a link to the club: http://midsomersetwargamers.nicksweb.co.uk/
