Lovely work Paul, how's your eyes after doing all those bayonet knots and epaulettes  @-)!

The eyes are holding up fine  :)

The tricky bit with the bayonet knots is I do them after I have based the figures so that I don't mix them up and the knots match the colours on the labels. A few of them have been 'interesting' to reach with another figure in the way.

It should really be only yellow piping on the epaulettes but that wouldn't have shown up and was probably going a bit far  ;)

I don't bother with bayonet knots.

I may have missed this in the thread but what base sizes are you using?  I was basing Russians for GWSH but might well switch them for ITLSU.

I forgot to say, the painting on these is superb. I'd never even think of doing sword/bayonet knots :-).

We are basing infantry on 25x25mm and cavalry, mounted and dismounted,  on 30x30mm.

In ITLSU each base is a platoon (section if guns or MGs) and the basic unit is a company so a step down from GWSH. There are a few reports of our games in the Batreps thread to give you a feel for how ITLSU plays. We are really enjoying using them for the open warfare in 1914 and are looking forward to using them for Sinai.

Thanks, I decided to use the bayonet colour code for the colour codes I use on all my labels.  I then wondered if I could do the bayonet knot on a few figures... ;)

Tried and it turned out much easier than I expected  :D

Simply wondermus. I'll have to check out the ITLSU batreps again. I've built early war forces for a Portable Wargame project but the stands can easily be used for ITLSU. I'll have to pass my initiative roll soon and post some pictures of the Portable Wargame in action.

I'd just make the point that ITLSU does not use 'platoon' bases - the unit is a company of a variable number of bases (see p6 where the author makes clear he has chosen the number of bases in recognition of likely strength). Remember that each two man base is about 40 men. So if you use a platoon per base you end up reducing the manpower strength of a German company with its 3 züge to 120 men (about 50% TO&E) as opposed to a British company with its four platoons at 160 men (66% TO&E).  Of course this may be what you want, depending on what actions you are depicting.

You are indeed correct, I should have used 'platoons' rather than platoons.  :-[ ;)

We typically use 3-4 bases per company as per the rules which is possibly a little low for France in August 1914 but about right by September  ;)

Made some more progress:
- started the rifles and carbines - brass & German straps to finish :)
- started the lances - tips and pennants to finish :)
- will do the swords when I do the lance tips but have done the scabbards :)
- have also done the haversacks, saddle bags and started bread bags and water bottles  :D

Have also been distracted again ...  :o ;D ;D ;D

Peter is looking at some 1/4,800 Tumbling Dice "Napoleonic" ships so I dug out some rules I wrote years ago aimed at fleet actions and had a look at scales. The interesting thing is that if you use 4cm to the cable (40cm to the nautical mile) the ground scale is very close to 1/4,800 [1/4,572] :o :D

Let me know how that goes, always wanted a Tumbling Dice fleet.

His new Russio-Japenese fleets are AMAZING btw.

I mentioned once in passing that TD make 1/4800 napoleonic naval ships as well as 1/600 planes.

Mrs Shy was somewhat unimpressed when our latest credit card bill arrived with PM 1917 stuff on it, even although I had told her about it. So don't expect me to order too much more for a while  =)

Did manage to score several brownie points by taking her to local fabric chain store in search of basecloth material. She got some stuff for herself as well and entered a competition. a few days later they rang up and told her she had won a sewing machine worth several hundred dollars  :-[

So plenty of time to finish 1914 and 1917 stuff and AWI militia before the 210th anniversary of Trafalgar refight  :)
