Need help with some Warmaster Units (Dark/High Elfs & Undead)

Hello,

This is my first post on your forum, since now I have only read and watched many pictures. So hello to everyone.

I want to start a warmaster army. I decided for the pendraken miniatures, because they cover most of the needed units and the miniatures look very nice. And here comes the problem:

I can not decide between High Elves/Dark Elves and the Undead army and this brings me to some questions, which should help me finding a decision:

1. Is there any fitting miniature for the high elf Dragon or Dragon rider?

2. Is there any fitting miniature for the sphinx of the undead?
3. I think the great skeletons would probably fit for the Bone giant. Could anyone please post a picture of a size comparison between a normal skeleton and a large one?
4. The army pack for both, the high and dark elf army is very good for starting warmaster. The undead one really seems not to be. Is there any possible different mix of an army pack for the undead?

5. Could anyone please post a picture of the dark elf raptor riders (I think they could fit for the cold one riders)?
6. Is there any fitting miniature for the war hydra of the dark elf army?
7. Is there any fitting miniature for the cauldron of blood?

And the most important question of all: is it possible to ship to germany and how much would it probably cost?

Thank you for helping me out with my question. Please excuse me for my bad english, I am not a native speaker. ;-)

Good night,

Tyzor

Hi Tyzor, welcome to the forum.

I love Warmaster so it's nice to see someone else getting involved in it.

For the High Elf Dragon Rider/ Hero on a Dragon I'd suggest FME14/ Period: Fantasy/ Range: Men/ Dragon lancer (1).

Can't think of anything that would do as a Sphinx, sorry.

I think the great skeletons are a bit small for bone giants - I use a pair of 28mm skeletons myself.

Raptor riders - in the thread "Fantasy & Sci-Fi - Entries Only!" there are painted raptor riders by mad lemmey.

Can't think of anything off-hand to use as either the Hydra or the Cauldron of Blood. Others here may have suggestions though.

I'll leave details of posting to Germany (definitely possible) and varying pack contents to Leon.

Have fun with Warmaster!

Thanks for the fast reply. Is there a picture of the dragon lancer available? The 28mm idea is good. If I decide for the undead I will copy that. ;)

If you also play warmaster, which army would you suggest to be really nice to play?

Ithoriel

Don't know of a picture of the Dragon Lancer but AC14 is the same dragon - flying with wings outstretched and breathing flames - the Dragon Lancer has an armoured figure on the back. That may help give an idea of what you'd get.

The Warmaster armies are pretty well balanced so you should get a decent game with any of them.

The Undead rely on a mass of units to absorb damage while whittling the enemy down but also have some good offensive units in the chariots and monsters plus good spells.

High Elf armies tend to be more compact, with better armour and better command values. The leadership 10 general makes them very effective in smaller games. Also have some good magic though the main offensive power is in the Silver Helms.

Dark Elves are similar to High Elves, though they have a different mix of units which I think makes them a little more versatile.

I think High Elves in most games are pretty boring...lots of spearmen and Archers and usually for some reason better than everyone else
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Ithoriel

I take the minimum of spearmen and archers in my HE armies and lots of Silver Helms, chariots and characters on dragons!

Elves ought to be good! They live for thousands of years. In the first century they get an education, pay off their student loans, get married, have kids, pay off the mortgage and set up a pension. All they have to do for the next nine thousand nine hundred years is practice swordcraft and buy arms and armour with more enchantments on them than you've had hot spaghetti breakfasts :D

HE armies live and die on their manouevrability. With decent command rolls they can run rings around an opponent. With poor ones they die horribly!

2. Is there any fitting miniature for the sphinx of the undead?

Not sure on that one?  Do you have a picture?

Yep, either the larger skeletons, or a 28mm one as Ithoriel suggests.

We can change the army pack for you, no problem.  The easiest thing to do is send us a list of exactly what you would like, and we will sort it out for you.

Nothing suitable in our ranges unfortunately.   :(

7. Is there any fitting miniature for the cauldron of blood?

Not sure?  Maybe a conversion using something from the Dungeon ranges?

Definitely, shipping to Germany is no problem at all.  The shipping cost is 15% of your order total, with a minimum charge of £3.50.

Thanks for all the helpful answers. I definetly love the raptot riders and the dragon lancer is also such a wonderful miniature. It is a really tough decision. ;)

Edit: is the 15% automatical purchased and which possilities of payment are there?

And one last warmaster question: could someone tell me about experience with using pendraken for warmaster. How many miniatures you use for a stand?

Ithoriel

Final thought before I head for bed!

For Cauldron of Blood perhaps a conversion based on the OT2 Ottoman Turk Foot command with soup pot and carriers (22)/ Period: Renaissance/ Range: 16th C. Ottoman Turks/ £4.50

Just an idea.

I based my undead up for Warmaster
this is it so far:

i was doing roughly 5/6 figures on a base for the shambling hordes and 3/4 for more hard hitting stuff. you can see the larger giants on the right of the photo.
Sometimes I wonder - why is that frisbee geting bigger - and then it hits me!

Hi Tyzor,

Welcome to the forum.

For bone giants I have used these (Scroll down to the Mummy figure):
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/190793813315?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=490131114494&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

They are really easy to convert into different poses too.

The Anubis war dogs (same page) aren't too bad as a Sphinx substitute.

Finally, don't worry about your English beacuse:

1)  It's very good;
2)  You'll still make more sense than most of us around here :D

Welcome, Tyzor - good to see another Warmaster fan here  8)

You could look at the Giant Mummy for your Bone Giant:

On-table with some other 'normal' sized Pendraken figures:

- from this bat rep: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,5083.0.html which has got some Tomb Kings types in it...

Or go 28mm as the others say - I did this with my Gobbos, using an old plastic Heroquest zombie (I think) for my Giant:

- with the others: http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,7943.0.html

For my Pendraken WM armies, I've actually based them on 50x25 (rather than the normal WM 40x20) as the figures are quite large...my Wood Elves & Gobbos are in-action here:

I'm working on Beastmen at the moment  :)

Tyzor

Thanks a lot. We will definitley go with 40*20mm. I thought about one line of foot with 4 miniatures. Could anybody probably help me out with a photo of line of miniatures and a measurement next to? I am not sure about this idea and do want to buy enough miniatures. ;)

Fenton

I have no photos but you can easily get 8 miniatures on a 40x20 base
