Like I said earlier...I did enjoy it.
Not SO much that I'll feel I might be missing out if I don't see 'part 2'.....But more than enough, to give it a second look.

Talking of 'part 2s'......Anyone seen the second Hobbit film yet ?
Any good ?

Cheers - Phil.

Its sitting on my hard drive waiting to watch this weekend
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Saw it back at Christmas and liked it a lot.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Tolkien fan (have read LotR three times end-to-end and dipped in to favourite bits too often to count) and I thought they'd done well adapting the story for a mass market audience without losing too much of the original.

What's not to like? It has dwarves and elves and goblins and spiders, a dragon and ...

Also saw it back at Christmas, and am also a died in the wool Tolkienophile.  Loved the LTR trilogy, particularly the extended versions, and thought Hobbit 1 was a hoot, great fun, with a lot of "soul".  You can all sense a "but" coming along in a second, can't you?  Well, you are right.  I was very disappointed. I didn't hate it, it just didn't do anything for me.  Most of the dwarfs, whose character development took so much well spent time in H1, we're forgotten about to trudge along as mindless extras.  Big plot changes, which might have worked (the molten gold statue) were lost for want of thirty seconds exposition. Lake town looked like a bigature made by me, rather than the guys who created Helm's Deep and Minas  Morgul in LTR.  And Steven Fry, who I usually love, was a dreadful parody of his own character, which is pretty much a parody itself.  In the end I was bored.  The one thing I did hate, was the 3D - my eyes hurt, and the only thing in this extravaganza which seemed to "pop" was a butterfly, for all love!   I hope Big PJ gets back to form for H3, there is still a lot to cover.

Good film...bit swashbuckle BUT...

Really didn't need the last 45 minutes.

I am the complete, COMPLETE, COMPLETE Tolkein obsessive and love all the extra bits.  You could make the film 79 hours long and I would but the extended version!!!

The last 45 minutes didn't add anything.  Still a good (not a great) film.

Enjoy ;)

When I look at this now I don't see the picture of Tauriel that was there earlier when I posted it - link still shows if you quote it though.

Is it showing for others?

Every time I think I've got to grips with the picture viewing software on this forum .... I haven't!!  =)

Don't ask me 'I'...
Yes, you're right....Quote your post above and some image 'blurb' shows .....But even simply previewing it, in a reply, makes it disappear.

I realise she's a movie invention not in the book but if you're going to add eye candy/ love interest Evangeline Lilly is a pretty good choice :)

Hopefully picture will show this time since it's done as an attachment.

I agree with Mollinary, the last 45 minutes of the film was merely a sop to the action junkies. It seems no modern film can end now without the director attempting to outdo his rivals in barely believable derring-do. It would be nice if, for once, the characters relied on brain rather than bicep.

I do disagree on one point, I found laketown exactly how I imagined it to be, although I also felt Stephen Fry to be grossly miscast.
