So who's watching the Olympics then, and what are you looking forward to?
I thought the opening ceremony was impressive, and I'm looking forward to a few of the events, the swimming should be good to see if Phelps can win another bag full of medals. I enjoy some of the track and field as well, 100m final, relay, etc. The BBC coverage through the Red button is pretty cool, every event has it's own channel now, so you can flick between them all. There were 23 events on there this afternoon!
Oh, and of course the beach volleyball is always worth a look...

:P
I WAS sort of looking forward to the 'O' word....But got more than slightly teed off with the TOTT (Totally Over The Top) hype that preceded it.
Now that's finished and it's actually started, I'm sure I'll be dipping in and out from time to time if only to see Britain's Dwayne Widdle-Waddle competing in the tiddly winks event.
Here's hoping that the British bungee relay team don't get disqualified for breaking wind in the first leg like they did last time ! ;)
Mrs Techno enjoyed the opening ceremony...I fell asleep, I'm afraid.
Phelps failed in his first event matey....He'll be back.
Cheers - Phil
I was really impressed by the opening ceremony, especially the Queen and James Bond sequence which was just superb. I felt immensely proud (and very tired) at the end of the ceremony and I must admit a little emotional at times :'(. The only bit I didn't think that worked that well was the start of the 'information age' or whatever it was called. There must have been so much stuff that went over the heads of other countries watching the ceremony.
As for events, the gymnastics, volleyball (I used to play so enjoy the proper version as well as the eye-candy one), the athletics 100m, 200m and 400m sprints. I'm sure there are others but can't think of them at present. My wife however is like a pig in sh*t this summer with the European football, Wimbledon and now the Olympics almost back-to-back.
I think we should do it every four years and do away with the football world cup ;)
i saw her at the opening ceremony - the lady in red or Leryn Franco from Paraguay (http://images.askmen.com/photos/leryn-franco/82905.jpg)

Excellent, me and Dave went along to the warm-up game vs Brazil last week and had a great time. Brazil were a different class to us, hard to see them being beat.
I've been slightly disappointed with our lack of medals so far, I thought the home-team advantage would have paid off a bit more by now! Miss Adlington had a good swim though, faster than Beijing, but only managed a Bronze unfortunately. :(
Credit to the Women's Cyclists for riding through that rain as well!
:o
And Mr Phelps missed out again ! :o
Cheers - Phil.
Did anyone see the Womens Beach volley ball between Ntherlands and Spain? One of the Spanish team Liliana Fernandez Steiner has a very nice arse
She dived for a shot and fell flat on her front, as she got up onto all fours in preperation to stand up the cameraman zoomed in on her shapely bottom. Obviously a man of impeccable taste.
Unfortunately I havn't got the shot in question, but hopfully the link to another tasteful shot of her assests it will work.

Still better than the German swimmers, Cyclists, Judoka...the list goes on ;D
What's all this nonsense about Mr Daley and twitter insults?
If you dont like the limelight step out of it young man. >:( What a waste of Police time when they could be chasing real criminals. >:(
Reminds me of Frankie Boyle's rant about Adlington on Mock the Week where he ended up losing his job. What happened to sportsmanship?
You lost/came lower than first. GET OVER IT :d
Went to the first water polo session Sunday: Croatia ground out an 8-6 victory over Greece then Spain thrashed Kazakhstan 14-6 in much more entertaining style.
Ended up staying half the afternoon just meandering round the Olympic Park which I thought was fantastic. The stadia are just superb and there was a great atmosphere despite the intermittent downpours.
Only got my ticket because my brother's girlfriend gave birth last week. Now desperately trying to get a couple of tickets so my wife can take our eldest up to enjoy the Olympic Park experience.
Cheers,
Meirion

A Gold medal for Helen Glover & Heather Stanning in the coxless pairs! :D 8) <:-P

It may reflect badly on me as a human being but I found the kerfuffle involving Chinese, Korean and Indonesian badminton players to be hugely amusing.
And, despite my advancing years, I'm adolescent enough to find the whole idea of a women's coxless pair to be mildly snigger worthy.

Hear, hear, Nik. Man of the games so far for me has been Emanuele Guidi of San Marino in the men's individual archery. He was a wild card entry, streets behind all the other competitors, and arrived on the butts grinning and waving to the crowd - obviously enjoying the whole thing. He got slaughtered by his opponent and departed, still beaming and waving, to great applause. It's what it's all about IMHI. :)

I tried one once, at Ben Fong's in Fort William. Deep fried King Size mars bar.
What it looked like in the wrapping was bad enough! The Caramel layer when fried was sickly, teh fluffy bit became like a crunchie, I ate about two bites and then ran up Ben Nevis on teh calories inside!

Okay - I have a new Olympic hero: Haley Nemra of the Marshall Islands, did really well in her 800m heat with a PB, but didn't qualify in her heat (despite the heat after her she would have won comfortably as there were only 5 participants, all the good guys pulled out)!

I think dum-dum is the best.
I don't get religeous persuaders any more. I always argue science with them. I think I might be on a blacklist somewhere
Try this phrase next time Jehovahs witnesses come to call:
"Come in, let's talk about God, I have 18 minutes until I have to give blood! Slice of birthday cake?"
(My dad spent a long time in the early 90s finding out what they could and couldn't do, that one REALLY worked well)!
Unfortunately the Hairy-fishnits and the Morgan fanclub come strainght in, and usually ask for seconds!
But that is boring. I prefer to point out the first Chinese Empire was founded only 50 years after the literalists date for the great flood, and ask them to explain how there was enough people 6000 miles away to do this in just 3-4 generations. Kangaroos are another good one.
Go, explain kangaroos! I need a laugh!
(The counter to this will of course be 'duck-billed platypus, made up of the big man's spare parts!)

What's even funnier is if you let them in and then talk about anything BUT religion. Show them your kid's hamster and tell them all about it, talk about the recent re-do of yout living room, discuss pro's and con's of a flat screen tv, and finally invite them up to have a look at your stamp collection. Believe me, it doesn't matter if you have one, for by this time they will have bowed in a hurry.
Cheers,

If they're his spare parts then he's an odd-looking cove. :o And I'd like to know about kangaroos too. ;)
Apparently 'roos (and koalas and stuff) floated on mats of the debris caused by the flood (STOP LAUGHING - this is the official explanation of Ken Ham's creation museum). They don't explain how they got to Israel.
I like Eddie Izzard's comment - surely evil ducks should rule the Earth - "Aren't you coming on the Ark?" "Nah, we're ducks, instead of floating down here, we'll float up there."
What about drop-bears ?
DROP-BEARS! Evil Bas88rds! Took out half my troop man, you should have been there, we only just got out alive!
We demand 10mm bears with parachutes
Lead alloy parachutes don't work too well.... ;)

Well that was one of the best two weeks of TV I've ever seen, I only wish I could have watched more of it. The whole Games have been a thorough triumph, and everyone involved should feel quite rightly chuffed that they contributed to it, especially the 75,000 volunteers who've received rave reviews from everyone I've seen interviewed. The athletes all performed to such a high level, and it was great to see so many medals heading our way.
The closing ceremony tonight was just as good as the opening one I thought, a nice mix of music and arty-stuff, although I could have done without the Spice Girls or One Direction... :-\ And I must admit to getting a bit emotional when 80,000 people responded to Freddie like that. :-bd
All in all, I currently feel immensely proud to be British!

I think what made it for me was that I found myself watching sports I would never have considered watching usually - like archery, rowing, gymnastics etc. When it's the best you just have to watch. :)

Pretty sure they did that at Sheffield a few years ago now, when 'Queen' joined forces with Paul Rogers.
Wonderful version of Bo Rhap with Mercury and Rogers 'doing a duet' on the CD.
