I have been thinking of getting these rules already have square bashing Ver 2,  looking for more info on the rules before i get them.

I have a copy...they play like WW2 spearhead, but with more constraint on your units of what they can do , the trench warfare is well done with planning the attack and artillery bombardments etc

They are set up for playing BIG games with each stand representing a company

I would say they are more detailed than Square bashing though I have only played a couple of games of it

worth the money if you ask me but you will need quite a few stands for it

Looking at the lists a British Army Division 1914 would have about 50 stands with some additional assets on top of that

base sizes are 30x30  Table size will be to do with the size of the game but I would say a minimum of 6x4 would be needed

Great to know that the base sizes are compatible with Square Bashing. I was looking at my early war British and French last night wondering how I should base them. When the weather clears here I will get them primed and ready for painting.

H fellas, I see that Fenton has answered most of the questions already. I just want to add on to the table size. You can play anything from 2 x 2 to - well massive. We played on a 22 x 7 down in NZ a few years ago and next year we will be on a table roughly 100 feet long
For the Trench warfare games you basically need 2 feet width for every deployed defending Regiment/Brigade. So for example playing Vimy the table is 8 feet long as there were four regiments deployed along the Canadian Corps front (actually 5 but only 1 btln from two of the regiments.) So you can have an attacking division against a defending Regiment/Brigade on a 2 foot wide front or 4 feet if the defender puts on two defending regiments.

With 10mm figures what size bases should you use for bigger models (such as tanks). Most will fit on 30mm width bases, but some will need a lot more depth.

Will 30mm by 50mm bases work OK, or would square ones be better?

Lots of bases to make a division.

Fred you can make the depth - however, the deeper the base the more chance of being hit by artillery 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 or 30mm x 30mm works for infantry but as with 15mm or 25/28mm figs you could always double the base size to accommodate the larger model or simple extend the depth by 5 mm to protect the model. It is aesthetically more pleasing to keep everything square, but that doesn't mean you couldn't keep a 30mm front on an a 40 or 50mm depth - however as mentioned earlier I would likely just double the size of the base like with the 15mm stuff.

Hope that answers the question - and yes there are a lot of bases for a division Early war French you would need 48 Infantry Bases 16 HMG bases, 4 RHQs, 1 Div HQ and 9 x 75mm bases. Along with 1 cavalry and 1 engineer bases. More than double that for a Corps

If you are from the UK maybe you can make it down to Dorman in Aug 14 to see the big refight of the Marne. We will need about 30 players
