Not heard that one before....But heard that it's a daft idea to drink/suck beer, etc through a straw...Never tried it....Don't know if there's any truth in it either.
Are we on to old wives tales here ?

We used to get loads of people coming up to the bar asking for straws because it 'gets you drunk quicker' but as far as I know it makes no difference whatsoever, aside from any possible placebo affect maybe?

I have seen it done. Apparently, by using a tea spoon you take in large quantities of air with the beer, which gets the alcohol into the bloodstream that much quicker.  Of course, it also depends on what type of beer you're drinking too. The guy who did it was pretty wrecked afterwards and he was someone who could hold his beer.
