It will be a near run thing...

Two weeks until I head off to Manila, so if I don't get this batch finished before then you will have to be patient for at least 4 weeks :o

Horse's manes, tails & hooves done last night :)
I also got the boots, cartridge boxes and hats base coated on half the batch before it got too late :)

Base coated the boots, cartridge boxes and hats on the other half of the batch :)

Highlighted all the cartridge boxes and hats :)

Brass on muskets, scabbards and swords done :)

Touched up trousers where red was showing through near the jackets

Lace done on all hats, uniform lace done on one sixth of the batch :)

Uniform lace on the rest and skin highlights left to do, then touch ups :!!

When I prepared the bases for the last batch I did enough extras to cover this batch as well :)
It was nice to just have to label them :) :)

When you do this in a batch, do you have a little ditty in your head?

'Manes, horsetails, hoof and boot, hoof and boot'
'Manes, horsetails, hoof and boot, hoof and boot'
'Belts and boxes, handle of the sword'
'Manes, horsetails, hoof and boot, hoof and boot'

Or is it just me, then?  :-[

Perhaps I should have, I missed a couple of sword handles >:( I'll sort them when I do the touch ups :!!

I certainly find I get in a rhythm when doing several of the same pose ;)

I have some good news and som bad news for Techno...

First the good news...
I have finished painting the current batch including touch ups  :)

Just the wash, final dry brush and figure bases to paint and they will be ready to base :!!

Now the bad news...

There will be no progress on them this weekend :(

Roy, our usual wargaming host, and I will be guests of the NZ Army this weekend :)

I was the successful bidder in a charity auction at work and the prize is a weekend for two visiting WWI related sites in the Wellington area including, ironically, the Great War Exhibition and Chunuk Bair diorama.

The highlights will be reading the "Ode of Remembrance" at the Last Post Ceremony at the National War Memorial on Saturday evening and serving breakfast to a group re-enacting the marches over the Rimutaka mountains from Featherston camp to Trentham camp by reinforcements for the NZ Army in WWI.

We were given the option of taking part in the march or assisting with breakfast at the summit. As the summit of the Rimutakas is 555m I chose to support the marchers ;)

Have a great weekend Paul  :)

Aren't the Rimutaka's hills not mountains....people always reference the Rimutaka hill road?
Through they should probably be mountains. :)
I've riden up the incline quite a few times. take a torch if you're going through
the summit tunnel and take care at Siberia corner ~ last
time i was there a big slip had taken out the old rail bedding.

Cheers

We are certainly looking forward to it :)

It is a mountain rather than a hill once it is over a certain height, e.g. 2,000 feet (610m). Given the highest point in the Rimutakas is 940m I thought it best for our overseas audience to call them mountains ;)

It's typical Kiwi understatement to call them a hill. But then West Coasters talk about Christchurch being over 'the hill' ;)
The 'hill' in this case is the Southern Alps, including Mount Cook at 3,724m :o

Seriously though, Paul..... I too, hope you have a great weekend.  :)

paulr

I definitely had a great weekend and didn't forget the camera. I will post some pics in a different thread once I have had a chance to sort through them :D :D :D

Phil will be pleased to hear that I even managed to make some progress on the current batch :o

They were washed before I was picked up on Saturday morning and I did the final dry brush before heading off to work this morning :) :)

I will paint the figure bases tonight and hopefully base them tomorrow  :!!

Late last week I also sorted out the next 'batch' for when I get back from the Philippines. For a change these will be four built up areas including Guilford Courthouse and Hoskins farm

The current batch has now been based :)

I will hopefully touch up the bases and do the shrubbery in the next couple of days. Then they will be ready to varnish and photographed :!!

While the bases were drying I put together a report on Roy and my weekend as guests of the New Zealand Army here http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,12832.msg177555.html#msg177555
