Making good progress on Lee's Infantry & Militia
Militia taking a while - so many poses, so many colours - can't get into my normal painting rhythm
Result should be worth the extra time though  ;)

Just completed the white lace on my first lot of tricorns, something I had been dreading  :-SS  :-S

I should have had more faith in Clibinarium :)  Very simple to run the brush round the edge, plenty of clearance from the crown

It certainly finishes off the figure nicely and adds to that 18th Century feel  :D

Now "just" touching up, wash and basing ...

Then the next batch  ;D

Another productive day

Current batch of 92 Infantry & 2 Officers now painted so total for the project is:

Painted
160 Infantry
35 Cavalry
10 Officers

205 Total

One disaster averted  :-SS. One of the standard bearers from AWA6 went weak at the knees.  :o Actually where the trousers and leggings meet, not sure what happened perhaps damaged in transit, perhaps a casting issues (forgive me Leon) Of course I hadn't noticed it until after I had all but finished painting the figure! Ended up bending figure back and forth until came apart then cleaned up breaks and glued with araldite, seems to have done the trick.

Have decided to paint Butler's North Carolina Militia Brigade and all the remaining American officers next. That gives me some really bad Militia to go with the bad Militia I've just finished (will do some Continentals after these). Doing all the officers will hopefully let me get into a bit of a rhythm with the horses, so I won't have to keep doing a few with  each brigade. It has also forced me to firm up the uniforms for the remaining American units.

Regards,
Paul

Making good progress on current batch of 48 infantry for Butler's North Carolina Militia and 24 Officers.

Militia coats done, horses done and a good start on the officers, particularly those with buff facing, small clothes and trousers  :)

Played a Dunkirk era WWII game today. Interesting scenario with a British infantry battalion supported by various armour, a couple of 2pdrs troops and a 25pdr troop withdrawing down a couple of roads across the table. The Germans entered the table from the same side as the British a few turns later. 'Interesting' for me as the British commander not knowing how close behind the Germans were.  :-SS

Fortunately managed to set up a couple of good ambushes and held up the 'beastly hun' for the required 10 turns  :D

Not bad for before lunch  ;D

Not much information on Lee's Legion Infantry and most contradictory, so went with:
- one company Green (same material as the Horse's jackets),
- one company in blue faced red (they had received blue & red material plus painting of a Lieutenant Lawrence Manning at Eutaw Springs in blue faced red),
- third company in brown faced red (as they had just got a lot of replacements from Virginia State troops who were probably brown faced red).

Or to put it another way , "if you can't make it accurate, make it complicated"  ;D

Lee's Infantry can also deploy as detachments which can skirmish, so duplicated figures

Thanks for the kind comments. I'm finding the painting diary a useful motivational tool. People will know if I slack off  ;D

The figures are also very motivational, a joy to paint.  ;)

I'm very pleased with how the basing is working as well. I'm using a new approach to texturing the bases which I read about on this forum and it helps to give a more "rustic" feel.
