Myself and a friend are thinking of doing the Two fat Lardies Burma campaign, there seems to be enough Japanese types in the Pendraken, but what figures would be suitable for the British in Burma..Would the Eighth army ones in shorts be suitable..I think I might need some in slouch hats as well

Any help gratefully received
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

8th Army would be fine, and codes BR55-57 in slouch hat would also be useful.  There's also the Anzac code, AN1 which would fit.

I'd buy 16th century Burmese eagerly too. The country isn't just a stage for the big boys to fight over (inter alia, they make a jolly good pork and mango curry!

Word of caution on using 8th Army figures; most of the photographs I have of British troops in Burma show them wearing long trousers. This might be because a) it was actually quite cold in parts of the country (Burma has four distinct climatic regions), or b) the combination of dense undergrowth and poisonous snakes meant it was advisable to wear some protection on the legs. Also, whilst the floppy bush hat was universally worn in the country, most British and Indian troops seem to have worn the steel helmet in action.

As a matter of fact, a lot of photographs show our troops wearing the standard serge battledress. The British 2nd Infantry Division, which was shipped out to Burma late in the war, was completely clothed in European style kit.

I would avoid 8th Army figures, therefore, and use the floppy hat figures mixed in with ordinary British infantry in steel helmets. The only type I've been unable to find so far is Indian troops in the pagri (turban). The WW1 versions all wear putees.
When you realise we're all mad, life makes a lot more sense.

Hi Fenton

I would use the normal british infantry with the slouch hat ones mixed in as in most pictures they seem to be wearing both also the the British infantry will pass for none sikh indian troops
