Cheers - Phil. ;)

I'm going to start a "Letters to the editor, thread".....

For silly moans....

Along the lines of "Sir, I notice with dismay....."

Yours...Col. Buffington-Tuffington (deceased) Tonbridge Wells. ;)

FierceKitty

Dear Sir,

I am disgusted - disgusted, sir - at the ongoing disrespect for the authority and example of those who stood firm against invasion in 1066, who gave their all to keep Morocco English, who showed Johnny Dervish who was master at Khartoum, and refused to bow down to Czechoslovakian pressure in the matter of peace for the next year (nearly). When, o when, will the people of the other Eden, demi-Paradise, as the Swan of Avon sings, when not giving it to the Martians for some reason, learn proper attitudes towards authority? Answer me that, sir!

Yours faithfully,

Major-General Sir Percy McHogg, MA oxon (failed), KCB, VC (almost), GG, GG, GG.

p.s. And the milk for my kippers was delivered late again this morning!
I don't drink coffee to wake up. I wake up to drink coffee.

PERFECT, Alexander.... =O =O =O

Right....everybody leave this one alone.

New thread in a few minutes.

Cheers - Phil  ;)

Halloween. In MY day... just a Turnip (Swede to the southerners!) lantern at the door... with another on a string. LOVE Turnip!  A quiet walk down street with Grandma and Boxer dog... looking for Witches flying. Maybe a Toffee Apple on return. And that was it  :)
No U.S imported Trick or Treat' and Pumpkin rubbish and annoyance! That came in in the 70s with U.S TV.
Kids main efforts were 'Penny for the Guy'... for Guy Fawkes in the U.K.

As a kid, I wouldn't have been seen Dead ( !) in a silly Halloween costume!  And as for the 'adults'... :o ;)

Oh, well... just a Grumpy Old man... with a Wicker Man ready for importunate 'Trick or Treaters'... they should 'keep' until 'Bonfire Night' !  :d

Ps: We go back in time ... so... an hour which never existed... Ha , Ha  , Ha !  :d :d :d

Seriously, the 'Fun' years are memories for the future of kids, grandkids... someday, they will look back...  :( :)
(40 Yrs ago. I should have been an Angry Young Man... but wasn't.
Now... I am an Old B******! )  ;)

And that extra hour is going to be taken up clearing the Olympic sized swimming pool just outside the back door.  X_X

(Not a problem...just that the storm drain can't cope when we get that much rain, as it has to cope with LOTS of water coming from four different directions from various downpipes. A quick bit of adjustment to one 'cover' and then the water whooshes down 'the plughole'.....glug, glug, glug....very satisfying when it does that !) ;)

Cheers - Phil. :)

Off blank die and.

Mr Narnia was playing such truly awful painful silly sods, I had to ask Von to call an ambulance, earlier.
Four to seven hours wait..(apparently)...Von started driving us over..
Do I really want to go to casualty, at this time ?......Not on your life.
I just kept pushing at the lump.....and FINALLY after around five hours.....the cricket ball sized bastard went back.

Better than anything you could imagine.

I hope I'll sleep for 36 hours.

Technically trick or treating is reimported... Comes from an old Scottish and Irish tradition known as guising. Though the kids are supposed to show off some skill or talent in exchange for the treats.

The whole pumpkin thing as well is just because there were no Turnips/Swedes in the Americas, though have to say the smell given off by a candle in a pumpkin isn't quite as bad as a candle in a turnip smells!

I remember as a kid Halloween seemed to involve a lot of apples at my grandparents. Bobbing for apples, apple on a string from the doorframe (you had to bite it without using your hands and without breaking your teeth) and an apple pie with money in it. Toffee apples too. It's any wonder I made it through with my teeth intact.
