Yeah, I don't see you as a huscarl in a shield-wall, Phil. You'd keep reaching for the Bren gun....  :-\

I'm probably overdue 'one of those moments'..... when I sneak downstairs to get some plasters...Hoping Mrs T doesn't spot me.

My son has just had a conditional offer from University of South Wales for their Computer Games Design course.  Last year the first two weeks were spent playing board games, and discussing why 'This' is a good game and 'That' isn't.
I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain why you are wrong.

Good for him. Can't help feeling "discussing why 'This' is a good game and 'That' isn't" doesn't feature highly enough in game design!

Did I win? - yes: good game. no: bad game.

Well that was easy enough.

I think they should eschew board games and dive in to a good old fashioned 10mm brney. You could suggest it to the tutor. Just think how proud your son would be when you rock up explaining the difference between Republican and Imperial Romans, and insisting that the measurement is taken from the middle of the unit. Such fun to be had!  :d :d

Yes, that's my problem with many modern games (computer and board based) in a nutshell. A good game is not one I win, it's one I  still enjoy if I lose. A bad game is not a game I lose it's one I don't enjoy even if I win.

For me, a good game is easy to learn, hard to master, has enough of a skill element that I win because I was clever and enough luck that if I lose it was because I was unlucky :)

EDIT: Team play can also be useful - my team wins because of my brilliance or loses due to the incompetence of my allies!
