I think it's a shame that ranges are not complete in some way or another. A partial range means either we don't do it all, go to another manufacturer to fill gaps or if there is not one available put in requests in the hope that others will support that request (often to no effect).

The Crimea is an option I am considering instead of 1859 (which is what I really want to do  :'(   ), but if I do I will have to go to MM simply for Guards without Bearskins.  :(

Do you mean guards without greatcoats?

Yes.

The illustration on the website and Bernie's pics. show greatcoat. That probabaly fits Inkerman, but not the Alma.

Hi Chad

Well you can always do BOTH 1859 & Crimea.

My journey started with the 1866 period and thus armies from Austria Prussia, Italiy and the German states. Then it was to 1870 and only needed to add the French for yet another period. Then it was the Ruskies and British for the Crimea as already had the French and Sardinians (yep I know coats are anarchronistic).
So we can now fight 1859 Franco-Sardinians v Austrians and also what-ifs such as Victoria was a Victor and thus an Anglo-Hanoverian army can face off Bismarck and his terrible Prusisians in 1866 or indeed a Battle of Dorking Anglo-German bash/or an Anglo-French tiff. It really is a cracking 30 year period where almost any European power can fight one another

What are you using for command figures for the 1859 French Voltigeurs of the Guard? The new figures don't have any command figures.

Chad

Shedman

Good point Chad - the FPW Command don't look right with the Voltigeurs

A command pack for the Voltiguers would be very useful because then I could also use them for Algeria in the 1830/40s and the Crimea

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:La_prise_de_Constantine_1837_par_Horace_Vernet.jpg or http://legion.l.e.pic.centerblog.net/ni20cw1g.jpg

I made a request for command figures but it seemed to fall on stony ground.  :(

This is why my 1859 plans are on hold.

A remodelled Austrian in fantry figure in Kittel would be good as well. There have been several requests, but again to no effect.

I've looked at paintings of the storming of the Malakoff by French troops in the Crimea and I can't see any discernible difference from the 1870 troops.

The prints I've seen clearly show the Voltigeurs in Shakos.

See attached link to photobucket for Crimean game of the battle of the Alma played this weekend. I have also done some pics of units to show Pendraken range for Chad and others who might be interested in this neglected period

Nice pics Bernie - thanks for posting; you've blended your bases with your table nicely  8)

I might well blame you at some point for causing me to add to my lead pile... ;)

Leman

Hi Chad, those voltiguers look like the Guard Voltiguers. I looked hard but could only see officers in kepis.

I do not have a problem with an officer in a kepi, but I assume that drummers/standard bearers would be uniformed as Voltigeurs. Still leaves me with the problem.  :-X

I think standard bearers were officers, they certainly were in 1870. As for drummers - looks like it's greenstuff time again!

Found another print on the net last night which clearly shows an officer in shako. Back where I started!  :(
