Hi all, have just got some of the American Nam stuff for a new Air Cav army I'm working on, (Huey's and infantry) and was wondering what colour to paint them. Can any one suggest some authentic looking colours for infantry and choppers?

Here you go Dave - this is how I painted mine [references are Vallejo Game Color / Citadel]:

Vehicles:

Basecoat:
Cayman Green + Black 60:40 => Cayman Green => Cayman Green + Bleached Bone 60:40

Stowage:
Charred Brown => Bestial Brown => Cobra Leather
Earth => Earth + Khaki 50:50

Tracks / Tyres:
Black => Cold Grey

Windscreens:
Black => Black + Cold Grey 75:25 => Black + Cold Grey 50:50

Helicoptor rotors:
Black => Black + Cold Grey 75:25

Infantry:
Charred Brown overbrush

Flesh:
Dark Fleshtone => Dwarf Flesh [some with no highlight for African-Americans]

Base uniform:
Cayman Green => Cayman Green + White 70:30

Helmet:
Yellow Olive => Yellow Olive + Desert Yellow 60:40 => + Bleached Bone 60:40

Webbing:
Yellow Olive => Yellow Olive + White: 50:50

Weapons:
Black => Cold Grey

Magic Wash everything, fast re-highlight & then spray matt varnish  :)

welcome to the Nam!!

Remember, I use Coat Darms Olive drab on both uniforms and vehicles, then black wash followed by drybrush light grey. I find this picks out the webbinng enough for my taste.

Bear in mind that the colours in the field changed, Ive seen pics of Hueys ranging from green to almost a  brown shade.  Uniforms get stained, fade so theres no right shade IMO.
