I know, it was an impulse buy, but what am I to do with cammo?

I will admit to being something of a impulse purchaser when it comes to Pendraken. I know, you're shocked.

You may be less than surprised to know that I now have a platoon of US infantry from 1984 in my lead mountain.

Any tips for painting the cammo pattern?*

I'm torn between the MERDC and NATO colour schemes for the vehicles.

*Better still, can someone tell me that in 1984 US infantry were still wearing overall olive drab, so I don't have to paint 4 colours on a tiny, tiny figure?

I think you need to get a grip on yourself, and not purchase things on a whim. Particuarly things that will encourage you to buy other things on impulse. Now you have 1984 Yanks, you will suddenly find yourself purchasing 1984 Russians. Where will htie end ??

You need to take a leaf out of my book and only ever make considered and planned purchases of items you actually need  :^o  :^o  :^o

For Inf camo uniform do not attempt to 'replicate'... go for 'effect'. Light base will bring out Brown and Green overpaint. Very little Black... a Sharpie pen?
Artists pencils?
Armour... just enjoy yourself!

In 1984 you are stuck with MERDC (and 4 colour infantry uniforms). I don't think that NATO 3 colour was introduced untill 1987-ish. Having said that I've always prefered MERDC as a camo scheme.

Infantry - paint a base green (Vajero Green Green works) then dry brush with a red brown. Paint webbing weapon and should look good.

Vehicles - well supposed to be Merdec but nato 3 tone works as well (Or buy British only 2 colours, and still have Cents)

Eh? In 1984? I think not. (Well, there's the AVRE thingy).

You want Centurions, do what I've done. 1962-ish, Berlin. M48s for the US, Cents for the Brits, T-54/5 for the Sovs, even T-34/85s. And everything's one colour (not the same colour, obviously . . .).

I'm told NATO was introduced in 1984   :)

Thank you. I feel some experiments coming on .

Hell, yes. I have them in Korea, Suez, Mk 1's for reasons, 1960s TV SF, a totally imaginary sub-Saharan country (including Conway and Conqueror), and now Israel.  I'm barely holding off from the Viet Nam war, and can't wait for Pendraken to bring out the S-tank so I can get some Swedish Centurions.

For 1984, I'm afraid I'd have to use Chieftains ... and I don't really like Chieftains.

Only done it with British DPM in 54mm but I layered it just as the original material was.  Paint the figures in dark sand first, then apply the green followed by chocolate brown and finally the black.  On a 10mm figure I think you will have to go for an impression rather than trying to copy it exactly.

Rhys

I sit corrected, the three colour scheme was actually approved in late 1983.

However implementation was another thing entirely.

The idea with the 3 colour scheme was to disguise the nationality the Pact were facing but the British didn't adopt it and all NATO vehicles carried a small national flag on the lower front.

I know, but the heart wants what the heart wants. You must remember I have eschewed Napoleonic French in favour of Wurttemburgers; I field no T34s in my Russian WWII - but have a mixed squadron of T28s and T35s; I created two WWI East Africa forces because I wanted to paint giraffes.

It's like when Eartha Kitt became Catwoman in the 1960s Batman series. She was definitely more cat-like and held a hint of menace, but Julie Newmar holds a place in one's affections.
