Hi
Just placed my first order for 10mm Franco Prussians. Super excited because it's a period I have always wanted to do & 10mm will enable me to give the battles justice as I want lots of units 😀
Considering 1870 rules at Mo but any suggestions welcome!
Even though I'm looking at a regimental scale, I'm toying between 16-20 fig strong battalions for the Prussians & 12-14 strong for the French.
Thoughts on that also please 😀

fred.

Welcome, Pendraken is the right place to come for big armies!

This isn't my period, so I'm not sure about rules.

Big units are great, but just be aware of the amount of painting you will have to do. You don't want to run out of enthusiasm before you get enough troops done to play some games. That been said if you can build up big forces they will look great!

Cheers for the welcome. What mods do you use for black powder & how many figs do you use per regiment?

Duke Speedy of Leighton

I use about 27-30, and if you pm me I'll send you the mods in the morning. :)

Welcome :-h

Not my period but I second Mad Lemmy's V&B recommendation, I use them for AWI and Napoleonic and will probably use them for the Sudan.

12-20 figure close order units work well, I use 16 figures for a wing, 32 for a battalion for AWI http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,14025.0.html

Make sure you paint a few units from each side so you can have some small games as you work your way through the project

Welcome to the forum! FPW is a great period to game.

Since Steve was kind enough to recommend BBB, let me point you towards this collection of reviews I just put together to mark two years since publication:

Greetins, boy; FPW eh? What a terrific period to choose to get into. Pendraken must have just about the best FPW range going. Don't know of another range that provides both styles of the pickelhaub that were worn. Would definitely urge a look at the Bloody Big Battles rules if you are keen to replay some of the actual battles with victory conditions that give the French a chance to snatch some victories.

By the way, Ian is an entertaining whinger from the Wirral - not as amusing as Half Man Half Biscuit though.

That's a very good description of FSN.
