Just placed my first order for 10mm Franco Prussians. Super excited because it's a period I have always wanted to do & 10mm will enable me to give the battles justice as I want lots of units 😀
Considering 1870 rules at Mo but any suggestions welcome!
Even though I'm looking at a regimental scale, I'm toying between 16-20 fig strong battalions for the Prussians & 12-14 strong for the French.
Thoughts on that also please 😀

Welcome, Pendraken is the right place to come for big armies!

This isn't my period, so I'm not sure about rules.

Big units are great, but just be aware of the amount of painting you will have to do. You don't want to run out of enthusiasm before you get enough troops done to play some games. That been said if you can build up big forces they will look great!

Not my period but I second Mad Lemmy's V&B recommendation, I use them for AWI and Napoleonic and will probably use them for the Sudan.

12-20 figure close order units work well, I use 16 figures for a wing, 32 for a battalion for AWI http://www.pendrakenforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,14025.0.html

Make sure you paint a few units from each side so you can have some small games as you work your way through the project

Greetins, boy; FPW eh? What a terrific period to choose to get into. Pendraken must have just about the best FPW range going. Don't know of another range that provides both styles of the pickelhaub that were worn. Would definitely urge a look at the Bloody Big Battles rules if you are keen to replay some of the actual battles with victory conditions that give the French a chance to snatch some victories.

By the way, Ian is an entertaining whinger from the Wirral - not as amusing as Half Man Half Biscuit though.

More on thread I was going to suggest BBB as well, it's a bit higher scale I think than you were considering but there's an entire FPW campaign in the main rule book and it plays brilliantly.

Welcome Dd,

As others have said, the Pendraken mid nineteenth century ranges are second to none.  If you want to fight Corp on Corps battles with battalions about the size you mention, then you could do a lot worse than start with the Realtime Wargames ruleset "To the Last Gaiter Button" for the Imperial phase of FPW, "Trapped Like a Fox"  for the APW, and, for the Republican phase of the FPW, "Paris, the City of Light". They are simple, great fun, and include a campaign system.

I have "Trapped like a fox" and it's really good - well recommended! Although I'm more likely to use the campaugn structure with BBB for the battles, I think :D
