Which might be worth passing on to elderly relatives.....I don't think any of you lot would be taken in. (Mrs T noticed this on Faceache, this morning.)

'BT' will phone you, saying you owe money. (Presumably they're doing this from a phone book, otherwise how would they know your land line is BT.)

To prove they're 'BT'......They'll 'cut the line off'.
All they're doing, is hitting their mute button and listening while you try and make a call....
They made the call...They have to release the line......Though if you just put your phone down, it should release after 6 minutes, anyway.

They'll then ask for the credit card details of 'the mark'.

Won't matter how many misses they get, if they can get a nice fat 'reward' from one poor sod.

An interesting question - I remember all your examples apart from the Cuban Missile Crisis and Janet Robinson (was that a personal memory  ).

Didn't really take much notice of the Cuban missile crisis (aged 7 at the time) but was living in Lai Chi Kok in Hong Kong when Kennedy was assassinated. Saw Churchill's funeral on my grandparents b/w tv and even had a commemorative 500 piece jigsaw of the event. My mum had an autograph album of everybody who was anybody in the early 60's as my old man was the army press photographer in Hong Kong and went to all the concerts including John, Paul and George but not Ringo coz he was ill and missed that particular far eastern tour. I took my O levels in 72, when qualifications meant something, remember the song Mrs Robinson but not Janet Robinson (unless one and the same?). Thing is, I missed a lot of t/v stuff in the early 60's because we didn't have a telly until '66 and I was a globetrotting army brat. Too busy playing outside to be interested in world affairs.

Janet Robinson was the most gorgeous girl in my school. O levels were in 69. Wargaming started in 66 for me, so yet another great thing about the 60s.

I can remember watching Neil Armstrong stepping onto the moon in the wee small hours (UK) in my parents living room.  One small step for man (peep), one giant leap for mankind. This was long before TVs in bedrooms. I was already 19 by then.

I can also remember Kennedys assassination as I was playing a wargame on the floor in my chums bedroom, Airfix Shermans against IS3s. I would have been 13 years old. My chums mother burst into the bedroom saying Krushchevs been shot, umm, well someone beginning with a 'K'. She wasn't an intelligent woman.

I don't recall Churchill's funeral much but do remember the Beatles, still playing them today. All else mentioned above is vague but I did get some O levels and have been to Prague since to see the Russian tanks.
