Stripped!

Well, this pointless posting is on the lines of the idiot in 'Waterloo'...breaking square and calling "Why?". (Why did he not get a 12lb ball through the head? Spoils the film!    ).
Have finished Dettol stripping the Humbrol enamel from about 30 1/285 GHQ Grants, Crusaders and Honeys from the '70's. (Teen paint job...but looked a bit like the B/W photos in the wargames books of the time. Now, not so good!).
So...STRIPPED! Turrets pinned for rotation. Dozens of missing barrels drilled and replaced...(a bit off center sometimes...but straight and unbendable!). Rivets lightly punched in...the Crusaders, anyway...still got the bloody Grants to do! Lol!  (Well, I  actually prefer the old castings of THESE vehicles to the rather overdone riveting on new GHQ models     ). Some PENDRAKEN! mdf bases chamfered and drilled for magnets     . Some EXTREMELY fiddley Heroics stowage ready for Superglue     . Possible annoyingly fiddley paint schemes planned...and DECALS!    
But...
WHY?

Like Smaug, lazing on his Gold, I sit...looking on MY, (less shiney...a bit!), lead pile...and think...they look nice! I think I will just gloat for a while...until I get HUNGRY for something else!

Like Smaug, lazing on his Gold, I sit...looking on MY, (less shiney...a bit!), lead pile...and think...they look nice! I think I will just gloat for a while...until I get HUNGRY for something else!

Always use dettol to strip figures in fact I've got about 8 panzer iv in soak,

You can strip paint with another highly flammable liquid.....Trouble is, that this one tends to melt plastic. 
(Works on metal figures a treat, though.)

I still want to know if anyone has ever tried to get paint off figures with Steradent ?

That's the kiddy, Andy.

When we used to do the painting demo's at GW stores...There was an old (HAH !) chap that used to swear blind that it stripped the paint off, beautifully.

We just assumed he was a bit strange, (HAH !..Says Phil, ..again) and never tried it.
For all I know, it could be the best thing since sliced bread. (I wonder if the MIL has got any ?)

Nobby....I don't paint my teeth....I just replace them with a ceramic putty.

Ooooh.....Meant to say.

I once 'carbonized'  the inside of a saucepan...(by letting it boil dry)...And used heated/boiling vinegar to loosen all the black crud.
(Didn't half make the kitchen stink...(Just a lot).....But it worked a treat.)

It might work.

Just be slightly careful.

When I've run short of 'dollies'.....I've used boiling water to loosen the green stuff from old 'masters', to give me some 'new' dollies to work with.
First time I tried this, the old masters got too close to the bottom of an old saucepan......OK...They were right on the bottom, in contact with the saucepan's base.....And they started to 'melt'.

If you can use something like a 'plastic' colander...try 'steaming them' in that.
Otherwise you might end up with 'blobs' of white metal instead of your original figures.
