Still think it should be Mortem AUT Gloriam!

1. What Ruleset? Sharp Practice 2
2. Which armies? 1778 British v Rebels in the AWI
3. Comfortable with the ruleset? No, not really
4. First time used? Yes, and it showed!
5. How many players? Solo

Used AWI British v Rebels in 1778 at 80 points a side (including support points). I played on a 5x3 table with lots of clutter but on reflection should have used 6x4 and left a bit more space for manouvre.

Like all lardy games I am guessing its more fun with a live opponent and a decent QRS would help as I was flicking constantly through the rule book to check things so it slowed play down an awful lot.

Undoubtably there's lots I got wrong but even with checking rules the game still flowed.

There's a lot to think about (like CoC) and the card activation system gives lots of tactical considerations into play. I found that like CoC shocks the killer. And when I did get kills I rolled really low and the British came off worst losing two leaders (one dead outright and one routed with a skirmisher unit). I never seemed to have enough leaders and it wasn't until very late in the game that I realised that command cards can be used to activate groups/formations.

I'm left with an awful lot of questions but I felt the same with CoC so am sure it will give a good game once you get the hang of how to best use your troops.

The Rebels whooped the British, even though they were hemmed in with their back to their DP. I'm glad I didn't name any of the leaders......

Lots of flavour in the rules. With better reading, a better QRS and a better understanding of how the mechanics work I am sure this will become a staple diet for the next few months if not longer

Actually we have always found that kills are the killer in COC, shock is manageable but kills happen on a 6 come what may, regardless of volume of fire, defence, stance or anything other than blind luck. It's really rather left us returning to IABSM, shame really.

Not so much of a killer in SP2 as the unit sizes are generally bigger and can therefore take more punishment. Shock REALLY piles up in SP2 and can be quite difficult to rally off.

5-15, 10-10, 24-1, 9-11, 5-20. Rather pleasing symmetry to my scores. 53 points. :) Pity it was a team event, and the other two members of my team couldn't make it, so I came dead last!  :'( Great weekend!
