Pretty much done with these guys now (unless I need a few more shooters to replace some of the pikes, as I think I've got the pike ratio too high)

About 30 pike per unit, so a scale of 10 figures works

Yes, I was thinking around 12 pike, 24 shotte, and 6-8 command. Unfortunately I've painted 16 pike - but might turn a couple into standard bearers!!

Why not just shunt the surplus to the next regiment?

Because regiments had different coat colours - lots of reds and greys, not so many blues. So yes they can be transferred but will need a fair bit of repainting.

Good ideas, I'm also thinking of doing some recently raised Jacobite troops in civilian clothes, so a couple in blue will fit in with a quick paint over of the orange bits.

Garde te Voet

Got these chaps based up tonight - bit hot for actual painting

Really pleased with how they look. Need to finish the bases, and find some nice big flags. Oversize flags seem to work well for this era.

I finally went with 8 pikes, and 2 pikemen as standard bearers. 24 shotte and 7 command.

For other units I think I will mix in 3-4 grenadiers on the shot bases, and generally stick with the 10 pike. So I need to re-jig the bags of figures I sorted out at the weekend  >:( But it will probably give me a couple more completed units  :D

These have been a speed production unit - 4 days from spraying to basing (well apart from 8 chaps who were done a couple of years ago!)

Cavalry next.

OK, frustrating, that. But not entirely a disaster. How many times have beginners in Napoleonics had to come to terms with the fact that their lack of knowledge of horsey terms has led them to colour the mounts of the Scots Greys wrongly?

Now fortunately the original, which is truly massive, is in Liverpool Art Gallery, so I'll take a look next time I'm in town. It also houses "...and when did you last see your father?"

They've both been in the Walker since I was a kid in thew 50s. Last time I went, three or four years ago, to the Henry VII exhibition, they were still there.
