fred.

Thank you!

They do seem to have come together nicely. I'll remember to think about bright colours more on future units.

Not much painting tonight.

Gave the Renaissance troops a brown wash - including the more sandy bases.

Also tried to paint the canopy lines of the Squat helicopters - with not the best results - so might need to touch them up. Not totally sure what to do with the rotor blades. Had initially thought to leave them black - but not sure if that looks a bit dull.

Hi,

Sorry I know I am very late in making comment to this but thought I could help with this post for your Squat copters.  For small scale aircraft canopies like yours I do the following:

1.  paint the glass as needed.
2.  using white glue/paper glu add a bit of water say a 90/10% white glue/water mix and then paint this over the glass.  let it dry.
3.  paint the frame, canopy lines.
4.  using a sharp object, needle nose tweezers, pin, needle, pointed blade lift the edge of the dried white glue and then with tweezers peel off in one go.
5.  white glue won't (shouldn't) lift your previously painted glass.

I used this technique on my 1/144th scale aircraft, helicopters.

Cheers,

Scott

Out of interest Fred, for which rules system have you based up the renaissance figures, and what size are the bases?

Thanks Scott that's a top tip - I will try it on the other 8.

They are based for Irregular Wars which is probably best described as small battle rules, with each based representing a company of men, and around a dozen bases to a force. It has a large number of random factors, especially in the game setup, and gives a good game.

May stuff is based on 40x40mm squares, but the rules are base width style, so any square base will work. We used 2" as a base width to keep the measuring and multiplying simple.

They are good rules - we were hoping they would work for big battles - but didn't scale up that much. But for what they are aimed at they are great.

If you are interested we could try to meet up for a game, as we are virtually next door to each other!

Indeed, Formby and Southport only about 5 miles apart. I will be on the Liverpool Wargames Club stand at Phalanx next week.

Played Epic on Friday - photos to follow.

Yesterday afternoon, got a good block of time to work on my squats.

Overlord Airships, Goliath Mega Cannon, Gyrocopters, more Rhinos, thudd guns and mole mortars. Couple of dry brushed coats of grey, and blue bits added. Also made various flight stands. While I was painting them, it felt like loads of stuff, photographed together it feels a bit less...

But this gives me a good 2000pts of stuff that can be fielded, even if its not quite finished.

Good stuff Fred.

I was in my local GW the other week and it looks like an Epic re-release is on the cards however going to be in 10mm this time. Certainly grabbed my interest.

Sounds interesting. It was one of the few things in GW that caught my attention in the 90s, but at the time decided to go with WM.

I only got into Epic about 18 months ago. It's a great game - and there is lots of old GW stuff still available, and lots of new stuff to.

I had heard the new release was going to be 8mm. As it's supposed to be a Titan based game then scale might not matter too much. The airships and the big guns above are 1/1200 or perhaps even smaller.

A new 6mm manufacturer is producing Titanesque tanks that are the size of a 15mm tank.

Have to say I had wondered if the new, rumoured to be 8mm, size was down to the number of manufacturers doing 6mm figures every bit as good as the GW ones.

I have more 6mm Epic than any sane person should own so probably not in the market for the new figures, however wonderful.

Just bought the new GW Silver Tower set minus the figures for thirteen quid rather than the £75 - £100 I've seen for the full thing, may try to do the same with the new Epic rules if they look to be any good.
