Based up 8 command stands for the Irish Confederation and Anglo-Irish forces.....have to magic up some more bases from card for the two "extra" cavalry regiments before I can base them as Paul kindly offered me some spare figures he had lying around.

Included some mounted command figures from the slightly later AoR range as Clib's figures are so dynamic.

Finished flocking and labelling 8 Irish command stands, having worked out who they actually are for the main scenarioes that I got them for (Benburb/Knocknanuss/Dungan's Hill)  ;)

Its Queens Birthday here today and I earnt my brownie points doing the garden yesterday so on to (carefully) cutting out bases today for the "extra" regiments and painting thatch and slate roofs.

A bit of thread necromancy here.....

Having sat on my shelf for 16 months I finally based and flocked 24 stands (8 regiments) of ECW style Irish horse and 5 additional stands of "transitionally" armed native Irish cavalry with light lance/spears.

I originally put them aside to finish once I got some more of our FK&P template bases from Leon, but I have forgotten to inculde the 4 extra bases needed in the last couple of orders I have got from Pendraken...opps :-[

Oh well, just have to add them to the next one instead ;)

In the meantime I have now got 4 x 2mm card thick ones cut out for them.  O:-)

Time to resurrect this thread...

As already mentioned in another thread Pierre the Shy had ordered "a few bits and pieces" from Pendraken recently, mainly ECW related camp followers and some extra cavalry figures to bulk up some existing Dutch horse units he has.

After their speedy arrival in the Antipodes Pierre the Shy has cleaned them up and sorted them. He then delivered them to me at our regular game last weekend.

I have since put the horse and cuirassiers on my painting rods and undercoated them. During the week I base coated the horses and today I touched up the base coat.

I admit it feels a little strange to be painting again after a significant pause. I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of it and making progress on these :!!

In parallel I'll need to track down some more undercoat for the rest

A few short months ago, I would have said "oh yes, English Civil War" and think I knew what I was talking about.  Now I know better.

Are *ahem* these Irish chaps are for the Irish Confederate Wars, aka the Eleven Year's War, which were concurrent with the series of conflicts on the mainland?

No actually they are two new units of Dutch Horse each of 24 figures plus enough Curaissiers to make my two existing units up to full strength (24 figures each). Thanks to Leon I got some more 2mm MDF bases inculded in my recent order.

They are generic Dutch style pistoleers so can be used anywhere in the 3 Kingdoms (or Europe if we ever venture into that theatre) from 1638 (First Bishops War) to around 1645 when all the various factions horse units moved more to charging home and firing pistols as they came rather than caracoleing by ranks.

I have myself finished 4 bases of pack horses and added 40 sheep to my collection as I felt that my existing bases were to thinly spread with only 2 sheep per base, with 4 per base they look a lot more like a proper flock of sheep.

I would post some pics but currently they are all on duty in a Irish game that we are continuing next weekend. The highlanders have been herding any sheep that they come across and reckon they will eat well after the battle  :)
