Second SS Panzercorps resumed its drive on Kursk after the Battle of Ivanovka. The Das Reich Division was ordered to cross the small Previa River and establish a bridgehead on the eastern side, before driving on to Oboyan. The crossing was entrusted to a battlegroup under Obersturmbannfuhrer Max Janskow. Initial objective would be the church and cemetery of the village of Preveskaya on the western side of the river. Janskow had available two platoons of medium tanks, a platoon of StuG IIIGs, a battery of 10.5 cm field guns, a battery of PaK 40 A.T. guns and a company of armoured panzergrenadiers with attached support weapons.

On the eastern bank the village, with its two bridges, was defended by elements of the 4th Guards Tank Brigade, from the 11th Guards Tank Corps, reinforced by artillery and rocket mortars from army reserve.

The Soviet left. Lukavich's artillery group is bottom right. The KV1s are turret-down on the hill.

Preveskaya church, with the village on the other side of the river.

Janskow's armoured thrust moves up to the church prior to forming up for its assault across the river. His Tigers stand in reserve on the main road.

Meanwhile on the German left von Muntwald's panzergrenadiers, with their supporting eighty-eights and PaK 40s, were deploying on a defensive line to ensure there was no interference from the Soviet right.

The Panzerartillery had begun to lay smoke along the river-line

The panzers advanced, but Lukavich's tank-destruction units lived up to their title and the assault ground to a halt.

Stapanovich's armour moved forward to cover his infantry. A couple of panzers penetrated into the village but were swarmed all over by Stepanovich's infantry.

The battle ended with the Germans held at the river-line. Their losses in tanks had been severe - their most potent weapons, the Tigers, left far in the rear. The battle lasted about three hours and involved four players. Rules were, as usual, heavily butchered FOW.

The Hanomags were accounted for by the A.T. rifle platoon.
