HMS Duke of York, HMS Jamaica, HMS Uganda, HMS Belfast

Same shot without flash...

HMS Duke of York, my grandad was Starboard Secondary gunnery officer. Fired 96 rounds at Scharnhorst, missed with every single one! It was dark and at a range of 22 miles...
Turned and brought her port batteries to bare, and the Port Secondaries were told to stop firing as they were too accurate and main guns could not see Scharnhorst's bridge to aim!
Got a bit too close here...

I started basing up destroyers last night, found four from a second hand job lot that I had picked up the best part of a decade ago; I could not identify. I noticed serial numbers on the base of there hulls, and took a punt on the Navwar site (really needs his fleets partitioning, 17 pages of WWI and WWII ships), so, I found I have two each of:
American Gridley class destroyer, which only served in the Pacific, but may explain HMS Shropshire in the batch, maybe he was starting Guadicanal?
C Class destroyers, batch cl, that weren't even commissioned until 1945!
Why? The rest of the batch was early and midWar North Atlantic British and German! Huh?  :'( :'(

Nice stuff so far Lemmey but ship warfare just not my thing. The following link, and website in general, is well worth a look for camo schemes for your ships.

Know it well, love the fact the book is advertised as having 'wipe clean covers'!

No one ever said wargamers were logical or systematic. An old friend of mine once gave me a batch of 1:300th Soviet armour which included 16 Shilka AAA vehicles. I think perhaps he was worried about the NATO airforces....  :o

Very nice Lemmy, what rules do you use?

I'm a fan of General Quarter I/II. Played in two games of GQIII organised by another gamer and was very glad he was umpring, meant I could ignore the rules; move ships and roll dice  :) :) :)

Your flash is doing very strange things to the white balance  :-/

 >:(  :'( No flash on these, just autocorrect on MSphotothingy, the grayer backgrounds are nearer the true colours!

A photography expert (Dan Faulconbridge - editor of WI, in fact) once told me that flash is the enemy of small model photography and to use available light if at all possible. Mind you, his £1,500 Nikon SLR was probably a lot more capable than most cameras.

Nice ships, Will. I've always liked 1:3000th.
