My 15 year old daughter wants to go to Comicom at the Excel centre in October

My Evil ex has offered to take her and a freind there on the train and go shopping while they go round it, as she has no interest in in.

So should I offer to take her and attend Comicon as well so i can see all the Cosplay Totty up close and get some pics have some Father Daughter time. Or is it something I should let her attend herself as it is a bit "nerdy" even for a wargamer.

PS My current partner has no idea about Cosplay or how people might be dressed at Comicon.

Some of those places wont let under 16's attend if unaccompanied by an adult, so might be worth checking that first
If I were creating Pendraken I wouldn't mess about with Romans and  Mongols  I would have started with Centurions , eight o'clock, Day One!

Thanks for thinking of that Fenton.

She has been before, but thats a brilliant excuse for me to attend.

You obviously want to.  ;)

Attending with your father is embarrassing for a 15yo.

Take the dear young things, then allow them to wander off whilst you somehow kill; the time until they are ready to return.

I've been an embarrassment to my children whatever their age.
So I second FSN's advce.
Life is too important to be taken seriously.

My limited experience is that these things are

- more expensive than you expect ... no matter what your expectations
- attended by rather less scantily clad totty than the internet would have you believe - at least in the UK, Though "less" is not "none" :)
- at some points more crowded than is entirely comfortable
- a chance to enthuse about your favourite films/ tv programs/ manga with people who share your particular passion
- a chance to discover passions for things you'd never have even heard of otherwise
- a chance to be the Cool Dad discovered chatting jovially with the writer/ actor/ producer of their favourite show. Just don't let them realise that 30 mins later said minor celeb couldn't pick you out of a line up if you were the only one in it!
- the risk of being the Embarrassing Pervy Dad found drooling over* the cleavage of some cosplay totty not much older than your eldest child

I'd say go for it but I agree with fsn, send them off on their own but make sure they can find you if they need to - mobile phones make this so much easier these days

Isn't that in the job description of being a Dad

Well....I've only just discovered what a 'Cosplay is'.
I've been under the misapprehension that it was some sort of female 'beat combo' that I'd never heard of, as I'm not 'hip with jive daddyo' anymore.
Can't say that I feel I've missed anything though. ;) :P

I would go, split up, provide them with limited spends, meet up, have lunch.
The rest if the time mooch, put your phone on, just in case, and figure they are 'missing, presumed having a good time'!

I think you should go but as the lads say let them do their own thing while you are doing some serious reaserch  ;) as for being an embarrassment that's part of the job.

Hmmm.. somehow get the feeling that I need to find out wat 'Cosplay' is since I haven't got a clue really... :-\

Anyway; kids will find their way; just make sure to keep an eye on 'em without them knowing it ;)
